Job Title: Family Advocate

Job Summary:   


We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Advocate to provide support and advocacy services to families in need. The Family Advocate will work closely with families to identify their strengths, needs, and goals, and connect them with community resources and services to promote stability, well-being, and self-sufficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of family dynamics, child development, and community resources, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Family Advocate will join the The Education, Career and Enrichment department at CASES in serving youth and young adults impacted by the criminal legal system. The Assertive Community Engagement & Success (ACES) program serves young men ages 16-24 who are residing in East Harlem and the South Bronx. ACES recognizes the importance of The Family Advocate is a person with “lived experience” as a parent (biological, adoptive, foster) or primary caregiver for youth or young adults who have experienced systems involvement. The Family Advocate supports families in both the South Bronx and East Harlem.



Salary: The salary for the Family Advocate position is $65,000 per year.


Shift Hours: The Family Advocate position is full time from Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

Location Address: 4 West 125th Street New York, NY 10027 and 424 E 147th Street, Bronx, NY 10455. The Family Advocate position is located in Harlem and the Bronx. The ideal candidate must be willing to travel between the two locations.

Workplace Flexibility: Flexible (for roles that have days that can be partially remote, e.g., being able to draft notes at home after going to the office/community in the morning)


What you will be doing:
  • Empower families to develop and meet goals to support family function
  • Accompany and support families who may need benefits assistance, support navigating housing issues, vital documents, etc.
  • Develop and maintain resource guides for families to access
  • Collaborate with ACES team members to ensure information is being communicated between team members
  • Connect parents and caregivers to resources that meet their needs
  • Enter data entry/notes at the end of each workday.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders who provide services for participants and families
  • Participate in in person weekly supervision
  • Attend weekly in person team meetings
  • Adhere to program dress code which includes wearing “ACES” shirts and/or business casual attire during work hours

What we are looking for:

  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver's license
  • Deep passion for working with families and young adults impacted by the criminal legal system.

  • Comfortable working independently with youth workers in the field.

  • A belief that participants, families, community members and team members have the ability and capacity for change.
  • Strong communication skills
  • FDC or FPA credential OR commensurate experience including being a primary caregiver and navigating systems

Preferred but not required:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
