Job DescriptionJob Description

Cancer Partners of Nebraska is seeking a full-time, Nebraska-licensed APRN/PA to work in a fast-paced hematology and oncology office in Lincoln. Our Advanced Practice Providers are an essential part of our team in providing comprehensive cancer care. Some weekend call is required. You must have 3-5 years of experience in acute care and/or hospital setting. An excellent benefits package is offered.

Cancer Partners of Nebraska provides comprehensive cancer care by combining advanced medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecology oncology and several other support services. Our goal is to provide Lincoln and southeast Nebraska with high-quality, evidence-based cancer care in a compassionate environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written standardized procedures.
  • Requests written and verbal consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
  • Administers therapeutic measures and obtains specimens as prescribed.
  • Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the client.
  • Dictates follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response and plan.
  • Maintains provision of preventive health services (e.g. screening, risks assessment, immunizations, PAP smears, self-breast exam).
  • Dictates or writes patient history, admissions, care plans, progress and discharge notes.
  • Assists in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Physician Assistant License
    • Or
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner License
  • BLS and ACLS certificate

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years professional experience in a clinic setting

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the cancer disease process and its related treatments.
  • Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for a teamwork concepts, clinic policies and procedures to administer patient care as it relates to the mid-level team
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA and other regulatory policies

Skills:

  • Skill in taking medical histories and performing physical examinations to assess medical conditions and interpret findings
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of healthcare to provide patient care
  • Skill in oncology; specifically patient care, infusion and safety (OSHA)
  • Skill in identifying problems, researching and recommending resolutions
  • Skill in exercising high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion and decision-making
  • Skill in customer service, communications, organization and confidentiality (HIPAA)

Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, organize and facilitate work responsibilities
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing and on the phone in the English language
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective, cooperative relationships with physicians, staff, patients and their families
