Midwest Food Bank is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team. In this role, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the financial health of our organization, allowing us to maximize our impact in alleviating hunger in local communities and beyond.

SUMMARY & MISSION STATEMENT:

Midwest Food Bank (MFB) is a $482M non-profit organization with ten divisions in the U.S. and two operations internationally. MFB operates with $76M in assets and an annual organizational operating budget of $20M to distribute over $482M in food and disaster relief boxes to 2,400 agencies.

JOB ROLE PURPOSE & SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager will identify, understand, maintain, and verify accurate financial and inventory records, processes, procedures, and control systems. The Accounting Manager will assist the Accounting Director in performing examinations and workpapers for internal and external financial audits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and handle Central books, international books and intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
  • Prepare donation receipts and reports on a weekly basis
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Process and reconcile monthly internal invoices
  • Manage grant recordkeeping, asset purchases, and procurement policy purchases, ensuring accuracy and compliance at the operational level.
  • Develop expertise in the inventory system including receiving, storing and distributing inventory and become point person for Primarius, assisting with trouble shooting and training.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory data for all divisions, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and administer monthly and annual inventory reports.
  • Administer organizational inventory pricing and product categorizing.
  • Assist Accounting Director with annual divisional budgets – creation and input into software. Prepare quarterly progress reports.
  • Serve as payroll backup for Human Resources Director.
  • Work with the Accounting Director to perform routine internal audits on financial accounts and controls such as grants, inventory, contributions, restricted funds etc.
  • Work with the Accounting Director to prepare audit and tax workpapers for annual external audit and 990 tax return.
  • Create and maintain bookkeeper manual of policies and procedures.

  • Foster a Christ-centered culture; develop positive relationships and appreciation for volunteers, employees, partner agencies, and community and business contacts.
  • Ensure compliance with all MFB policies, procedures, and rules and with all contractual obligations, regulatory standards, and relevant laws.
  • Recruit, identify, train, and continue to nurture volunteers in support of job role.
  • Network with peers locally and nationally and across the MFB organization.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-years relevant work experience, 5-years desired.
  • Work experience with inventory management processes and software desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field desired. Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting and GAAP principles and procedures.
  • Experience in accounting, inventory and auditing for a mid-size business or public accounting firm.
  • Performs tasks with integrity and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a team-oriented environment and achieving results through others.
  • Proven initiative, problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent professional communications, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to use technology or learn computer skills, such as Office 365, Salesforce, SageIntacct, Egnyte.
  • Willingness to participate in training that may include development of professional skills, education on MFB’s policies and procedures, and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer in an office setting; periods of movement in a warehouse setting.
  • Minimal in-state and out-of-state travel as needed; infrequent evening and weekend obligations.
