SUMMARY

Responsible for all tasks and duties required of an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician and the following additional duties listed below. Reviews equipment and instrument design information, specifies new/replacement instruments, is part of a project team to evaluate equipment and designs, determines spare part needs, and coordinates the work of others. A senior level technician also develops calibration and operational check procedures and is proficient on access and replacement of control systems (PLC, DCS I/O).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All the Level II I&E technician responsibilities, in addition to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides project support in reviewing designs for instrumentation and electrical equipment, in evaluating for effectiveness, and in conformance to electrical classification, NEC, site standards, and applicable safety and professional codes
  • Provides training to others on equipment and systems used in manufacturing. May act as a resource for others in trouble shooting various electrical or instrumentation issues
  • Has specific expertise in at least one type of equipment or repair, and acts as a subject matter expert for others in this area
  • Documents work performed on work orders/activity reports and on calibration sheets
  • Performs instrument and electrical equipment installations, replacements, and qualifications
  • Self-directing and follows up on deficiencies identified from operational issues
  • Clearly communicates issues and problems to venders and others. Offers reliable solutions while considering code and safety concerns
  • Schedules repairs and PMs in order to meet production goals
  • Must be able to carry a pager and respond to plant site emergency callouts
  • Develops calibration and operational check procedures
  • May be required to perform shift work
  • Activities may include demolition of electrical systems, such as removal of conduit and wiring, panel boards, transformers, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 5 years related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience. Must have 2 years of site-specific experience as an I&E Technician, or equivalent site knowledge.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

CO State Electrical Journeyman’s license or an equivalent of 7 years of industrial, electrical experience. In addition, CCST Level II certification preferred (Certified Control Systems Technician).
