The Food Service Head Cook Specialist ensures accuracy of food preparation, with the assistance of Food Service Staff. Head Cook will be responsible for monitoring all cooking & production, cleanup, and service of Head Start meals. Head Cook is responsible for the distribution of hot/cold foods making sure all food is labeled and dated for each site with appropriate amounts of food. Head Cook is also responsible for distributing food substitutions for special dietary needs given by the Associate Manager of Food Services. This position ensures that all food prepared by the kitchen meets the standards of the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The Associate Manager of Food Services supervises this position. This position does not have any direct reports.

Requirements:

· Proven leadership skills required

· One year experience in professional Food Service Preparation preferred

· Experience in the operation of large commercial food service equipment preferred

· Head Cook experience preferred

· Purchasing and ordering preferred

· Working knowledge of CACFP requirements preferred

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, at least twice a week without mechanical assistance, as well as daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and reaching required

· Moderate hearing, good sight, and ability to work in standing and walking position required

· Reliable vehicle which can be driven daily as part of work assignments required (mileage reimbursed)

· Required prior to hire and throughout employment:

o Valid driver’s license

o Proof of current auto insurance

o Food Handler’s Card

o Current enrollment in the OR Child Care Division-Criminal Background Registry

· Within 60 days of hire, Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification is required (provided in-house)

· Within 30 days of hire, must have an initial health examination, and a periodic re-examination (as recommended by health care provider) so as to assure that employees do not, because of communicable diseases, pose a significant risk to the health or safety of others, that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation.

· Above certifications must be kept current to remain employed
