Schedule Notes: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. 5x8 hours. 13 Weeks. Every other weekend. No Holidays. No on call.

Job Summary:

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements. This position assists with breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization, and other radiologic guided procedures performed within the Breast Center.

Duties:

  • Perform diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
  • Conduct mammographic imaging for breast needle localization procedures and stereotactic procedures, including setup and cleanup.
  • Assist in procedures using ultrasound guidance.
  • Provide immobilization devices, select proper technical factors based on individual patient needs, and operate equipment for specific procedures.
  • Identify patient films with the correct name, x-ray number, and correctly mark films as to the side of the patient and initials all films.
  • Develop exposed x-ray film using processing methods.
  • Complete patient requisitions with technologist’s initials, date, number, and size of films.
  • Assist with quality control procedures and document: phantom image, darkroom fog test, screen-film contact test, repeat analysis, fixer retention analysis, screen cleanliness, compression test, visual machine checks, processor quality control, view box and reviewing conditions, and darkroom cleanliness, as delegated by Chief Mammography Technologist.
  • Assist in BSE instruction and other patient education, including pre and post-procedure instructions.
  • Prepare cases to be imaged, including chart and films.
  • Assist with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, patients needing biopsies, ultrasound examinations, and follow-up on positive biopsy reports.
  • Document procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA.
  • Document in the Breast Center chart any pertinent information regarding patients.
  • Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing, and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years prior experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist.

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Must have ARRT.
  • Must obtain mammography certification within the first three months of employment.
  • Must have an active Diagnostic Radiography License.
