Denver, United States iDE Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

iDE is a non-governmental organization dedicated to ending poverty through entrepreneurship. Our work in agriculture, WASH, gender equality and climate resilience stands out in the international development sector because we don’t simply hand out money or supplies. Instead, we believe in powering small-scale entrepreneurs; given access to simple technology, market links, and microfinance, iDE has demonstrated that entrepreneurs can lift themselves out of poverty and become change agents in their communities.iDE is a highly decentralized ecosystem of over 1,200 staff who are passionate about innovation and impact. For 40 years iDE has made an impact in the lives of more than 40 million people globally.

About Global WASH

The Global WASH Initiative implements water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs in Asia and Africa. iDE has been researching, designing, and scaling sustainable sanitation enterprises worldwide for the last ten years. To date, we have sold over 1.8 million toilets and 700,000 water purification solutions across Cambodia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nepal, Ethiopia and Ghana.

The Global WASH (GW) team offers technical and strategic guidance and support across the global portfolio to drive climate-resilient, inclusive WASH programming.

The Role

We are seeking a graduate student to undertake research activities and provide programmatic support under the supervision of the GW team at iDE. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Research and Analysis - Perform ongoing and ad hoc analysis for iDE’s WASH programs and contribute to the evolution of our analytical models. This may include literature reviews, annotated bibliographies, and case studies.
  • Strategy Development - Support development of program strategies for emerging areas of work; contribute to tactical reviews and case studies aimed at improving project intervention models.
  • Other support functions as agreed upon with your supervisor, including writing research abstracts and summarizing key findings from relevant sector webinars.

  2. Build out our documentation around MHH
    1. This may include building on existing knowledge within iDE - through expert interviews and reviewing of materials - to build out a landscape Analysis of Key Stakeholders and Potential Partners Around MHH for priority iDE countries (Ghana, Nepal, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Zambia.
  3. WASH sector membership and coalition mapping
    1. Conduct a review of WASH sector coalitions and alliances and create a compendium to inform decision-making about iDE’s membership
  4. Strengthen internal process of knowledge and learning distribution:
    1. build on the low-resolution Knowledge and Learning (K&L) process, to distribute WASH knowledge and transfer it into a medium-resolution process
  5. Support WASH thought leadership at conferences
    1. Conduct WASH Conferences Mapping: we are expanding into new thematic areas under WASH, such as MHH, solid waste management (SWM), and rural water systems, and deepening our work in safely managed sanitation (SMS). We regularly attend the annual UNC Water and Health Conference, World Water Week and a few other WASH conferences, and we are seeking to map out other key conferences or spaces we should consider participating in.
