Internship Summary

As a Communications intern, you will report directly to Angela Kuck, Director of Communications at AAF. 

Angela brings extensive communications and policy experience, including more than a decade in Congress, and more than six years leading federal budget policy and communications at a university-based research center. Prior to joining AAF, she served as the Deputy Director of the Spending and Budget Initiative and Director of Policy Communications at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. She also served as the long-time Communications Director for the House of Representatives Committee on the Budget, working under then-Chairmen Jim Nussle and Paul Ryan.

 

Responsibilities and Duties
 

As part of the internship, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Editing assistance: Interns will provide editing assistance for research and other products
  • Daily clips: Interns will track daily media hits for AAF and Doug Holtz-Eakin
  • Social media: Interns will assist with AAF’s social media accounts
  • Other comms duties: Interns will assist with press release drafting, Daily Dish preparations, and other daily tasks
  • Event attendance: Attend Capitol Hill hearings and other events to assist staff and learn more about Congress, DC think tanks, and the national media
  • AAF event support: Interns will help promote, run, and evaluate all AAF events
  • Semester portfolio and presentation: Interns will create a portfolio to showcase their work completed at the Forum and give a brief presentation on a topic of their choice

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent writing skills; editing experience a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail; ability to work quickly
  • An interest in the politics and policies of center-right conservatives

Hours and Compensation

  • Interns must be available to work 20 to 29 hours per week in-person in Washington, D.C.
  • Interns will earn an hourly wage
  • Interns will use their own computer/equipment
  • This is a part-time, paid internship
