This is a paid freelance, remote position.

 

If you’re an experienced writer with a finger on the pulse of the Comics world, CBR wants you to join its award-winning writing team CBR is the oldest and most respected comic book culture website in the world. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary and community. 

 

Our editorial team is looking for writers to create fun, informative, and engaging Comics Reviews that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth and internal development opportunities within the organization.

Qualifications 

 
  • A passion for comic books, writing reviews, and a drive to grow within the industry 
  • Broad working knowledge of Comics, including: 
    • DC
      • Batman, Superman, Justice League
    • Marvel
      • Spider-Man, X-Men, The Avengers
    • Image
  • Up to date with new comics along with the MCU & DCU
  • The ability to analyze content and pull directly from the source material to back up claims 
  • A sharp eye for grammatical details 
  • Excellent command of the English language 
  • Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times 
  • Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment 
  • Should possess a general understanding of comics culture and strong research skills
  • Are you a verified Metacritic, Open Critic, or Rotten Tomatoes reviewer and/or do you have a Google Knowledge panel? Please list all below. Only candidates with at least one of these four profiles will be considered for the critic role.
 

Responsibilities 

 
  • Keep up to date with new comics, reading new issues and TPBs as soon as they release in order to turn in reviews that same day 
  • Write a minimum of 3 reviews (800 words) per week in CBR’s house style (following the requisite training) 
    • Reviews will be assigned based on each writer’s expertise and CBR’s needs
  • This will include fact-checking, formatting, linking, and image sourcing
  • Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team
  • Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team
