Job Description

This Developer role will be focused on technologies within our internal developer platform, called the Enterprise Core Platform.  They will play a key role in a cross-functional agile development team and will be responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of various cloud native components. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, collaborative team player, and problem solver. 

Cloud-native systems are designed to thrive in a dynamic, virtualized cloud environment, these systems make extensive use of Platform as a Service (PaaS) compute infrastructure and managed services. This developer will be well versed in these technologies and possess the skills to quickly adapt and learn new ones.  The Core Platform is a young endeavor. It will require technologies and techniques that are new to many at Expeditors but available and proven in the wider technology domain. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, test, and implement components of the Enterprise Core Platform
  • Design and develop cloud based micro-services to support the platform vision
  • Provide flexible solutions emphasizing speed, scale, and agility
  • Work with various development teams coaching them on Platform migrations and services
  • Awareness of various cloud native technologies and the ability to apply them to this context
  • Be a collaborative member of a highly motivated and very agile team
  • Step out of traditional roles to help out wherever is needed – embrace the agile mindset
  • Follow technology trends/tools and recommend improvements to the technology when appropriate
  • Participate in R&D initiatives to bring new tools to the Core Platform
  • Support and participate in DevOps practices and processes

This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years in a software development role in a team environment
  • Experience with web development
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with:
    • Object oriented analysis and design
    • Relational database concepts and SQL
    • Diagramming and communicating with disparate audiences of technical and non-technical people
  • Solid Java coding abilities
  • Experience with GitLab, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, as well as GitOps
  • Experience with the Kubernetes ecosystem
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline development, testing, integration and refinement
  • Self-starter who thinks outside the box; bias toward action
  • Willingness to try new things, iterating, and refining working solutions
  • Understanding of design for scalability, performance, security, and reliability

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Supporting environments using cloud infrastructure technologies – particularly Azure public cloud
  • Knowledge of the Kafka ecosystem
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes operators
  • Knowledge of Spring, Spring Boot, and dependency injection
  • Knowledge of operating systems including Linux, preferable RHEL7+
  • Scripting experience (especially shell, Python)
  • Declarative environment management with Terraform (Pulumi or Crossplane experience welcome)
  • Composition, packaging and deployment of containers, images, and Helm charts
  • Experience designing and implementing distributed systems
  • Experience working within a SAFe/Agile development framework

Additional Information

Expected base salary: $88,000 to $175,000
