Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for assisting certified YSL Aquatic Instructors during lessons. This position will work only under the supervision of a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.


Essential Functions & Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist aquatics instructors during swim classes.
  • Be prepared for class. Have all equipment available and ready prior to the swimming class. Assist in putting away all equipment after swim classes.
  • Always maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Always ensure a clean and safe pool environment.
  • Engage in active listening with members to build relationships, understand everyone's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in achieving those goals.
  • Attend mandatory monthly in-service training. Attend mandatory twice per year association training.
  • May be required to work one on one with individual students during group classes.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience:

  • A Swim Aide position is ideally for applicants 14 to 15 years old.
  • No experience necessary.


Physical Demands:

  • Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.
  • May be required to be in the pool for a long time.
  • At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
