Position Overview: The Morgan Oliver School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-Time Literacy Specialist to join our team. This position involves teaching literacy and providing remedial support to students aged 5-13. The ideal candidate will be Orton-Gillingham trained and proficient in delivering small group and whole class instruction. This part-time role includes participation in faculty meetings and designated planning days. The role will be collaborative and the candidate will support home base teachers in a small class environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Orton-Gillingham principles and methodologies to teach reading and provide remedial literacy support to students.
  • Design and deliver differentiated instruction that meets the diverse learning needs of students across various grade levels.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to identify students' reading strengths, challenges, and individualized goals.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy instruction across the curriculum and support literacy initiatives school-wide.
  • Provide professional development and coaching to classroom teachers on effective literacy strategies and interventions.
  • Create engaging and interactive lessons that promote literacy development, critical thinking, and comprehension skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and instructional strategies used.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional well-being and academic growth.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, strategies for support, and ways to reinforce literacy skills at home.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading Specialist, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Orton-Gillingham certification or extensive training with demonstrated proficiency in Orton-Gillingham methodologies.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in literacy instruction and remedial work with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction, including small group and whole class teaching strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • Commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic success and positive behavior.

 

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • Part-time position: 5 days a week, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM (Tuesday: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM).
  • Hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Tuesdays designated as planning days with teachers and participation in faculty meetings as scheduled.
