We are seeking a dynamic Controller to lead our manufacturing company’s financial operations. The Controller will oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cost management. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in manufacturing finance, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures and controls to verify the integrity of all financial reporting.
  • Oversee and/or manage the accounting, reporting and consolidation of the Company’s international subsidiaries.
  • Lead the preparation of month end and year end closing.
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements with a written summary of the results, paying special attention to unexpected and/or large variances against the previous year and the budget.
  • Work with managers and the executive team monthly to review budget variance and other performance metrics.
  • Develop annual budgets for each of the Company’s operating entities and the consolidated entity.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of the Company operations and management teams.
  • Oversee cost updates and overhead rate analysis consistently to ensure profitability.
  • Learn to respond to third party inquiries concerning government Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) regarding general requirements and when those requirements are applicable.
  • Support negotiations and monitor terms and conditions for new contracts.
  • Coordinate the annual audit for all subsidiaries.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Ensure the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, and operations, etc.
  • Manage the interface with outside audit firms(s), banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Ensure that all operational aspects of the accounting department are completed on a timely basis, including but not limited to, payroll entries, banking transactions, commissions and tax reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Effectively manage, motivate, coach, and mentor the accounting department and/or functions. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising and writing performance evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; documenting feedback, coaching, mentoring, and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems in the accounting department while maintaining constant communication and keeping Human Resources apprised of personnel issues and opportunities. Working with all departments to monitor spend and look for areas to reduce cost. Support decisions and convey a positive image of the overall management team. Contribute to management teambuilding and foster an environment that encourages employee involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

MBA or an advanced degree preferred with four to six years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA preferred. Will accept Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) and six to eight years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have some experience working with international company subsidiaries and financial consolidations, as well as cost accounting in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of business operations, processes and theories, including lean principles, ERP/MRP management, strategic planning and related skills.

Computer Skills

Proficient with a personal computer, Microsoft Teams and Outlook, advanced Excel skills preferred, experience with ERP software preferred.
