seeking an experienced

Carpentry  Restoration Technicians

to work the Metropolitan DC and Baltimore areas.

This is a full-time position with benefits, including but not limited to: health, dental, vision, paid time off and paid holidays, and a 401k.plan.   Competitive pay.

Position Summary:

  • Take measurement of distances and materials to establish the dimension/size of a structure;
  • Assist in the preservation, construction, repair, and maintenance of wooden structures including rustic woodwork, fine woodwork, patching, sanding, cleaning, and coatings applications.
  • Repair, and maintenance of metal structures, including welding, chasing, patching, patinating, molding, casting, cleaning, and coatings applications.
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings
  • Caulking,  joints, and tuck pointing experience in a commercial setting
  • Preservation, repair, and maintenance of historic masonry structures, including mortar pointing, patching, sealing, stone stabilization, stone carving, molding, casting, cleaning, and staining.
  • Provide timely response to daily work orders, document progress via consistent reporting, and complete projects in an efficient manner using a mobile and computer-based work order system.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized worksite using established protocols for location and activity.
  • Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by management.
  • Efficient use of  mobile and computer-based work order system.
  • Stain removal from structures and surfaces including use of appropriate chemicals and pressure washing techniques in a way that does not compromise surfaces.
  • Extensive background with caulking gun, masonry trowels, and other basic hand tools
  • Safe operation of  tools and equipment in compliance with all federal OSHA, state, and local safety requirements, including, but not limited to specialized equipment, small power equipment (chainsaws, generators, welders, mixers, drills, saws, torches, pumps, etc.) and hand tools (wrenches, hammers, floats, etc.) with the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to work safely on scaffolds and swing stages
  • Familiar with backer rod types and sizes; including knowledge of the difference between bulk, sausage, tubes and application of 2-part sealants
  • Masonry, commercial carpentry, drywall, brick painting experience 
  • Read and interpret building plans/blueprint for large and complex structures
  • Use plumb bobs, levels and squares to ensure an even and level surface/structure
  • Judge straight lines, spaces, and proportions.
  • Ability to works alongside masons to assist with productivity
  • Erect ladders and scaffolding in order to assemble wood/metal parts above ground level
  • Work and maintain knowledge of various construction materials among which include wood, fiberglass, steel, and concrete
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Build shoots and concrete forms for pouring cement mixtures during large constructions
  • Must be dependable and reliable, follow direction, perform some layout, general math skills, ability to read installation instructions, and work within tolerances

Physical Requirements:

  • Dependable, reliable, fulfills responsibilities.
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing and hard hats when needed.
  • Working in various weather conditions

Qualifications:

 

  • A four-year high school diploma or equivalent;
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience as described above that is equivalent to 5 years’ experience;
  • Professional experience or applied training in one of the related preservation trades, including carpentry, masonry, metalworking, painting, modeling, carving, or mold-making;
  • Technically proficient hand skills and a rigorous attention to detail;
  • Effective communication skills and basic computer knowledge;
  • Valid State Issued Driver License that must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform heavy physical labor daily in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to work safely at heights, using a ladder, scaffold or aerial lift. 
  • Experience working on historic properties is helpful.
