The Production Technician is responsible for overseeing the safe, technical operation of the company assets, including proper machine and job set-up in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure efficient and safe operation and product quality. This role provides the operations team advanced troubleshooting support, guidance, and assistance. This role offers machine operation mentoring to the operator staff in addition to developing standard operating procedures for machine set-up, optimal performance, troubleshooting, and training documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor machine operation throughout the day and ensure proper operation of machines in accordance with job specifications and optimal machine performance.
  • Provide written data and performance metrics as required in order to resolve operational issues.
  • Escalate machine maintenance issues and concerns to the maintenance department.
  • Keep production supervisors and managers appraised of machine performance.
  • Provide machine trouble shooting assistance to all operators as needed.
  • Safely perform and oversee proper machine set-up procedures in accordance with SOP’s
  • Provide basic machine maintenance as needed to keep machine working optimally including replacing worn parts, etc.
  • Mentor and train operators to further their understanding of machine operation, cleaning and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Perform jobs with additional requirements/duties including, but not limited to: perfing, hot melt, duplex, marking system, and panel bags
  • Assist management in the development of training materials including setup and make-ready guides, trouble-shooting guides and other machine performance procedures.
  • Assist management in the development and execution of manufacturing processes and procedures including, but not limited to: research & development, standard operating procedures, and process improvement/standardization
  • Perform back up machine operation when required.
  • Oversee process and ensure availability of all required production materials for assigned jobs and machines prior to production run including, but not limited to: paper, plates, gears, print cylinders, formers, knives, draw rollers, nip pads, ink, glue, and glue blades
  • Perform occasional duties on an as-needed basis including, but not limited to: retrieve glue barrels; clean print cylinders, plates, foil tanks, and hoses
  • Continually review and recommend necessary changes and updates to BOM’s and new job specifications.
  • Perform other additional duties as needed assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager
  • Perform all duties while adhering to Fischer safety standards including, but not limited to: machine guarding, lockout/tagout, wearing appropriate safety equipment, reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment to Manager, and adhering to all other applicable Fischer policies and procedures
  • Responsible for Food Safety through compliance to the following Policies and Procedures:
    1. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
    2. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
    3. Knife Policy; Glass and Brittle Plastic Policy
    4. Sanitation Procedures; Pest Control Procedure; Non-Conforming Product Procedure

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 5-7 years experience in printing, converting, packaging or similar industry required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced tool knowledge are required
  • Willingness and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Willingness and ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other Fischer employees
  • Willingness and ability to work both independently and as a team player to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and honest.
