The Senior Residential Loan Underwriter oversees daily operations of the underwriting process, in accordance with established WSB, FHLB, Fannie Mae and all WSB secondary market investor guidelines. This is a full-time partially remote position.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for ensuring consistent underwriting methods and standards while maintaining exemplary service levels for all residential loans included but not limited to first mortgage and HELOC/HELOANs.
  • Have an attitude of looking at the positive and how we-can-make-a-loan work mentality.
  • Stay current and update team on all WSB, FHLB, Fannie Mae, WSB secondary market investor guidelines, bulletins, and announcement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate underwriting processes to ensure application of best practices and maximize staff utilization.
  • Evaluate creditworthiness of borrowers to render a credit decision and/or recommend to proper authority levels.
  • Evaluating loans include but is not limited to analyzing credit reports, paystubs, W2s, financial statements, tax returns and bank statements
  • Review appraisal to ensure the report is accurate, completed and the value is supported in conjunction with appraisal reviewer’s comments and feedback.
  • Review submitted loan conditions.
  • Review, validate and update loan file data including loan detail, credit, liabilities, income, asset, property information and communication within the conversation log and emails as needed.
  • Submit and monitor to completion all LRC and BOI recommendations, approvals and ratifies.
  • Monitor and report on loans that are saleable prior to closing.
  • Monitor, revise and update Underwriting Procedures, Underwriting Checklists, Encompass Underwriting Conditions and Tasks as needed.
  • Provide ongoing communication to internal team and branch staff.
  • Coaching employees on technical underwriting issues, problems and/or questions.
  • Assist VP Residential Lending Manager in underwriting training for processing and underwriting staff. Training to be developed to meet an individual’s level and need.
  • Assist with the hiring, coaching, and training of underwriting staff as needed.
  • Assist lending department in other areas as needed.
  • Assists with new product development and software implementations as needed.
Competencies
  • Must be a detail oriented, ability to learn quickly and a team player
  • ability to follow through and see all tasks to completion,
  • knowledge of MS Office especially Word and excel, basic computer literacy
  • thorough knowledge of state and federal laws relative to mortgage lending including but not limited to RESPA, TRID and HMDA

Required education and Experience
  • 3 Years as a residential loan underwriter experience preferred
  • 3 years processing residential loan helpful
  • Portfolio, construction and affordable product underwriting experience beneficial

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Encompass and COCC experience preferred
  • Strong sense of urgency with a passion to provide excellent customer service
  • Motivated self-starter
