Job Title: Senior Insurance Underwriter
Job Description: As a Senior Insurance Underwriter, your primary role is to assess and evaluate insurance applications, risks, and policy proposals to determine coverage eligibility, terms, and premiums. You will utilize underwriting guidelines, statistical data, and risk assessment models to make informed decisions that align with the company's underwriting standards and profitability goals.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment and Analysis:
- Evaluate insurance applications, proposals, and renewal requests to assess risk factors, including financial stability, claims history, and policy terms.
- Analyze underwriting data, loss ratios, and actuarial reports to determine appropriate coverage, pricing, and terms.
Underwriting Guidelines and Policy Development:
- Apply underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and rating methodologies to evaluate risks and determine insurance premiums.
- Develop and recommend policy terms, limits, and exclusions based on risk assessments and regulatory requirements.
Decision-Making and Approval:
- Make underwriting decisions on complex insurance cases, considering risk exposures, underwriting guidelines, and business objectives.
- Collaborate with underwriting assistants, actuaries, and claims specialists to review and finalize underwriting decisions.
Client Relationship Management:
- Communicate underwriting decisions, policy terms, and conditions to insurance brokers, agents, and clients.
- Address inquiries, negotiate terms, and build relationships with key stakeholders to ensure client satisfaction and retention.
Risk Mitigation and Loss Prevention:
- Recommend risk mitigation strategies, loss control measures, and risk management solutions to minimize potential losses and improve underwriting profitability.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions affecting underwriting risks and insurance coverage.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, insurance regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct quality reviews, audits, and underwriting file reviews to maintain accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards.
Mentorship and Leadership:
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior underwriters and underwriting support staff.
- Foster a collaborative team environment, promote knowledge sharing, and support professional development initiatives.
Compensation:

Skills Required:

Education and Experience:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or progress toward certification may be preferred.
- Significant experience (usually 7-10 years or more) in insurance underwriting, with a proven track record in senior underwriting roles, preferably within the insurance industry.
