About the Role:
The Developer Experience team is dedicated to improving the development velocity of our teams through continuous feedback and support for developers, the development of internal tools, and optimizing workflows and guidelines. As a Staff DevEx Engineer, you will be responsible for owning build architecture, developer tools, and metrics that drive strategic improvements in software quality and quantity. Your role involves regular interactions with software engineers to understand and enhance their development processes, impacting all engineers within the organization.
What You Will Do:
- Optimizing Developer Workflow: Writing code to streamline and improve the workflow for developers, reducing friction and making their work more efficient.
- C++ Build Systems: Developing, supporting, and enhancing C++ build systems across the organization to ensure builds are repeatable, robust, and easy for developers to use.
- CI Systems: Developing, supporting, and enhancing continuous integration (CI) systems to ensure that builds and tests are repeatable, robust, and user-friendly.
- Software Systems Application: Implementing software systems for internal and third-party consumers.
- Developer Experience Metrics: Creating and interpreting metrics and signals related to the developer experience, then using these insights to drive improvements in the health and quality of the codebase.
- Tool Architecture: Designing and building appropriate tools for internal developers to enhance their software development capabilities.
- Systems Architecture and Infrastructure: Building and maintaining systems architectures and infrastructure to support development efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- BS in computer science or related engineering field with 7+ years of professional experience.
- Experience with a compiled programming language (e.g., C, C++, Rust, Go) in a production environment.
- Experience with Python in a production environment.
- Experience with a cloud service provider like Google, Azure, and AWS.
- Strong understanding of CMake.
- Strong demonstrated proficiency in continuous integration/delivery (e.g., GitHub Actions, ADO, TeamCity).
- Strong knowledge of git.
- Strong knowledge of scripting in Bash and Python.
- Strong system administration in Linux (with Windows as a bonus).
- Familiarity with containers (e.g., Docker, Podman, etc.).
- Demonstrated record of working hard, strong communication skills, being a trustworthy teammate, and being kind to others.
- Strong desire to learn and grow on the job.
