POSITION TITLE: Dental Hygienist

POSITION NO: 323

JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Hygienist works in conjunction with a dentist to meet the oral health needs of patients, while keeping the patient’s care, comfort and safety as the primary concern. The Dental Hygienist assesses the oral health of the patient, teaches patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies, removes hard and soft deposits from all surfaces and applies preventive materials to the teeth while maintaining policies and procedures consistent with the Family Health Center of Marshfield, Inc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Utilizes the dental hygiene process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient care.

2. Performs clinical procedures as directed by dentist(s), in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, to provide appropriate diagnostic and preventative oral hygiene care to patients.

3. Documents appropriate details in the patient’s electronic dental records to guarantee the correct information is documented.

4. Assesses and addresses patient education needs to promote patient self-management.

5. Performs customer service in person and by phone to address the concerns and to meet the needs of our patients.

6. Participates in quality improvement activities to promote quality oral health care.

7. Performs routine maintenance of dental instruments and equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly and is safe for patient care.

8. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.

9. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

1. Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene.

Preferred/Optional: Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Two years’ experience as a Dental Hygienist.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: An unrestricted Wisconsin Registered Dental Hygiene License. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. (Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association is required within 3 months of hire.) Local anesthetic State of Wisconsin Certification.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire.

PATIENT POPULATIONS SERVED

Individuals hired are expected to serve patients of different ages, backgrounds, etc. When performing the essential functions of the role, the individual must identify the patient age group to be served and apply the appropriate care based on the patient’s age and background. The hiring manager is responsible for communicating the patient population generally encountered in the role and is responsible for ensuring the appropriate cultural, age and related training needed to serve the patient populations.
