SUMMARY

Synata Bio commercializes novel fermentation technology to process synthesis gas into high-value products. We have combined our proprietary microbial platform with industry-standard gas production and product-recovery technologies. The process has been operated successfully at a significant scale and offers high yields, advantaged costs, and feedstock flexibility. We are currently executing multiple projects to design, build, and operate commercial-scale ethanol plants.


The Operations & Technology Delivery Specialist reports to our VP of Operations and will be instrumental in transferring our technology to licensee plants. This person will also work in tandem with our Engineering and R&D teams to identify areas of improvement and standardization. Our ideal candidate must be able to travel 50% of the time (domestic and international) and should have plant operations and/or plant start-up experience, a deep operations background with a passion for new technology, and strong communication and process improvement skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 10 years of experience in operations management in chemical production, manufacturing, or other related organizations.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in process improvement capacity in chemical production, manufacturing, or other related organizations.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Experience with plant operations, process troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 50% with extended stays during plant commissioning and start-up.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in the biofuels/ethanol industry and distillation operations is highly preferred.
  • Plant start up experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and with teams regarding daily activities.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and orally.
  • Experience working with international teams is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and coordinate cross-functional, multi-disciplinary internal start-up teams and external licensees to develop training materials, training schedules, and training to transfer operating knowledge to licensee engineering and operations personnel.
  • Lead internal cross-functional teams while commissioning and start-up new units & plants.
  • Act as a central call center for global licensee production units.
  • Evaluate, document, and analyze plant data to identify correlations for optimization and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with engineering, R&D, and licensees to identify and implement process optimization and expansion projects.
  • Document licensee plant improvements.
  • Work with Commercial, Engineering, and EPC teams throughout all stages of new license opportunities.
  • Assess new potential bolt-on technologies as they become available.


WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in a laboratory environment in Warrenville, Illinois. It includes work around chemical hazards such as toxic and flammable substances and supports a 24/7 operating environment—availability to work outside normal business hours.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Walk/Stand for a continuous amount of time.
