Summary and Objective:

The Food Safety and Quality Manager oversees production and warehouse inspection and sampling activities, ensuring they are effectively performed to ensure compliance with internal, regulatory and customer food safety and quality assurance expectations. The position is also responsible for interfacing with production management, communicating analytical results to the appropriate managers, data collection, and specialized tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Quality Team to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene expectations of raw materials and finished products through sampling and inspection.

  • Lead direct reports through training, development, recruiting, performance, continual feedback, ordering supplies and resources, assigning duties, reviewing documentation, and examining work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow while also finding solutions to quality, workflow and staffing problems.

  • Timely notify customer service, production and shipping in a timely manner of any held product that could result in potential delays in shipments.

  • Collaborate with departments to ensure coordination of other functions such as production, supply chain, customer service, sales, and warehouse to meet the daily company goals.

  • Serve as point of contact for the Pest Control Operator and assist with site visit findings. Alert management of findings noted in pest control operator reports.

  • Complete trace exercises of ingredient, packaging and finished products

  • Active presence and involvement with operations team members including conducting quarterly safety meetings, training, providing timely feedback, and regularly inspecting production and warehouse floor to ensure compliance.

  • Ensures all required paperwork is completed and signed correctly.

  • Ensures that employees comply with applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment while ensuring quality, quantity, customer satisfaction, and financial commitments are met.


Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring employees are performing based on company standards and provide training, guidance, and continual feedback to develop employee skills and provide consistent feedback on both positive and negative performance.

  • Participate in the hiring, discipline, and employment exit process for employees as required.

  • Lead by example, mentor, and train workers in all areas including, communication, conflict management and resolution.

  • Facilitate employee scheduling changes and time off, as needed.

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality management in a food manufacturing environment.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Quality and Food Safety leadership role

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Food Science, or related field

  • Experience working with raw and fully cooked processed meats or poultry environment highly preferred

  • Ability to effectively articulate and present the company's Food Safety and Quality strategy as it relates to senior management, regulatory bodies, and customers

  • Think independently to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety and develop and recommend appropriate program changes to ensure governmental compliance.

  • Proven ability to operate successfully in a rapidly growing organization, inclusive of demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts in addressing regulatory issues

  • Ability to formulate solutions from a broad perspective

  • Knowledge of product traceability required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP and GMPs

  • Excellent organizational skills including time management, priority setting, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and utilize job relevant software

  • HACCP Certification and SQF Certification

  • As needed, must be able to work all shifts, weekends



Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities:

  • Follow the proper hand-washing, sanitization, cleanliness, dress and grooming requirements.

  • Adhere to SQF, FSMA, Sanitation, GMPs and HACCP requirements.

  • Follow the Company’s procedures and processes for food safety and worker safety.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly work within a plant environment. The work requires the ability to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and talk and listen. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud in a plant production facility. Must be able to work in an environment with strong odors and varying temperatures.



Work Location / Travel:

The position is based in our Denton manufacturing facility. As a leader responsible for the functional area across the Company, the Food Safety and Quality Manager’s regular attendance and availability in all locations will be required. In addition, this role includes the ability to travel for business needs.
