POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant role offers significant opportunities to actively participate in the monthly financial close process by recording journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts. The primary responsibility of this position is to reconcile cash and deposit related transactions at the account level, as well as recording restaurant-level revenue and managing gift card reporting. This is a collaborative role that will work cross-functionally with various departments as we expand our capabilities in general accounting, compliance, and analysis.

· Develop knowledge by working closely with the Treasury team to ensure revenue transactions are accounted and reconciled appropriately and timely.

· Review, analyze and assess donations and create donation receipts for all Heart of Portillo’s contributions.

· Collaborate with our off-premise Marketing team on all 3rd party delivery partnership activities to ensure revenue, commissions, and refunds are accounted and reconciled appropriately and timely.

· Serve as a Subject Matter Expert by fully understanding the business processes related to cash operations, refund procedures, and gift card program, and recognizing their impact on the overall financial reporting process.

· Participate in month-end financial close process by recording revenue, cash, deposits, and other journal entries, as well as reconciling balance sheet accounts.

· Create and review weekly and monthly revenue workbooks and record related journal entries.

· Maintain, review, and reconcile accounts receivable for our commissary locations.

  • Support and promote SOX controls, corporate policies and procedures, and related GAAP requirements.

  • Perform research and analysis of outstanding reconciling items, work with internal and external partners to timely resolve discrepancies, and document resolutions.
  • Manage multiple activities simultaneously and ensure all deliverables are completed such as quarter end tasks, internal audit compliances, and other projects as requested.

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Senior Accountant and is part of the Accounting team, under the overall Finance department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Level/Certifications

· Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Accounting

· Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or pursuing CPA, a plus

Work Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 2+ years of experience in a public company reporting environment
  • Experience with general ledger, financial close process, and account reconciliations

· Ability to build relationships by establishing connections with others to build trust, share ideas, and accomplish work

· Experience developing others to become more effective through strengths, expectations, encouragement, and coaching

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Proficient in Microsoft Excel formulas and functionality

· Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently

  • Goal focused mindset to achieve company and personal goals
  • Experience with training facilitation and group presentation for small/medium groups preferred
  • Multi-unit (e.g., restaurant, retail, hospitality) and multi-state experience preferred

Travel Requirement

· Hybrid role (minimum 2-3 days in office per week based on business needs)

· Occasional travel may be required
