Position Summary

The Commercial HVAC Sales Representative is responsible for the design and sale of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to businesses, organizations, and commercial properties. This role requires a combination of sales acumen, HVAC mechanical expertise, and design proficiency to deliver high-quality solutions to commercial clients. This is an outside sales position, does not have direct reports, and performs work independently with limited supervision.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Prospecting and Lead Generation:

  • Identify and research potential clients in the commercial sector.
  • Generate leads through cold calling, networking, attending industry events, and leveraging online platforms.
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospects and follow up on leads in a timely manner.

Client Consultation and Needs Assessment:

  • Meet with potential clients to understand their HVAC requirements and assess their current systems.
  • Conduct on-site visits to evaluate existing HVAC systems, identify inefficiencies, and propose solutions.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to clients based on their specific needs, budget constraints, and engineering considerations.

Engineering and Design:

  • Collaborate with clients to develop customized HVAC system designs that meet their technical specifications, energy efficiency goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed system layouts, schematics, and specifications.
  • Work closely with our team to review designs, address technical challenges, and ensure compliance with industry standards and codes.

Proposal Development and Presentation:

  • Prepare accurate, comprehensive proposals outlining recommended HVAC systems, equipment, design specifications, and installation plans.
  • Present proposals to clients, highlighting the technical aspects of the design, energy efficiency benefits, and long-term cost savings.
  • Engage in technical discussions with clients to address their questions and concerns, and adjust proposals as needed to meet their requirements.

Sales and Contract Negotiation:

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with clients to close sales deals while ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including sales managers, engineers, and project managers, to finalize contracts and initiate project implementation.
  • Provide ongoing support to clients throughout the sales process, addressing any engineering or design-related inquiries and ensuring a smooth transition to project execution.
  • Meet or exceed sales targets and performance metrics on a consistent basis.

Project Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, from sales handoff to project completion.
  • Develop project schedules, allocate resources, and coordinate activities to ensure timely delivery of HVAC solutions.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or obstacles, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, contractors, and internal teams to provide updates, address concerns, and resolve issues as they arise.

Relationship Management and Market Research:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, architects, and other internal and external stakeholders in the commercial construction industry.
  • Maintain detailed records of sales, client, and vendor relationship activity.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador to promote a positive company image and brand growth.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and competitor offerings in the commercial HVAC market. Notify clients of new products that may be of interest.
  • Attend trade shows, manufacturer training, and other industry-related events both as a vendor and customer.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify potential business opportunities and differentiate our offerings.
  • Set and achieve individual goals and support department goals by contributing to a team environment.

Marginal Functions/Responsibilities

Requirements:

Education/Training Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years HVAC industry knowledge with proven experience in HVAC sales, engineering, and project management required.
  • Associate’s or equivalent degree in an HVAC related program desired.
  • Willingness to travel as needed required.

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid Class D driver’s license and commercial insurability required.
  • EPA Universal Certification desired.


Skills/Abilities Requirements

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, engineering principles, design standards, and mechanical code.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, sales, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn, understand and communicate company products and services.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to effectively learn new software applications independently including HVAC design tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Physical Demands

Stationary Position Able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Move Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, crawl and sit.

Operate Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Frequently operates a motor vehicle.

Ascend/Descend Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to maneuver around equipment and commercial buildings including rooftops.

Positions self Occasionally required to work in restricted spaces, from a prone position.

Communicate Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Observe/Inspect Able to observe details at close range, distance range, peripherally and with the ability to adjust focus.

Transport Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift/push/carry up to 50 pounds.
