Job Summary

The Controller plays a vital role in supporting the CFO with all daily financial operations, including month-end close review, analysis, and action planning. This position oversees key performance indicators, supply chain, and revenue cycle operations, ensuring the hospital's financial statements, books, and records are accurate and comply with GAAP. The Controller is also responsible for hands-on training, continuous improvement, and financial operations support for department leaders and staff. This role includes managing the Market's annual operating budget, routine forecasting, and adherence to audit requirements for GME and Lab entities. Additionally, the Controller oversees Shared Services, Lab, and GME entities and provides market support as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in the market's long-term and short-term financial planning processes; make recommendations, analyze deficiencies, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Provide director-level oversight for finance teams within Lab and GME, optimizing performance with hospital controllers in the market.
  • Collaborate with market department leaders and staff to develop work plans aimed at improving financial operations and quantifying the financial impact of improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance by staying attuned to Internal Audit activities, completing self-audit risk assessments, and maintaining SOX compliance through regular reviews and audits.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end reporting, analyzing revenue and costs against budget/forecast, and identifying areas of shortfall to assist in the development of mitigation plans.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliation review and complete all quarterly and routine forecasts in a timely and accurate manner for CFO review and approval.
  • Lead the annual operating budget process for market entities, gathering information, obtaining input from department leaders, and finding efficient ways to achieve budget goals.
  • Assist department heads in program planning, including organizational goal achievement, budgeting, facilities management, equipment and supply utilization, and statistical/financial reporting.
  • Prepare revenue, cost, and service line analysis, as well as pro forma development as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with the CFO on initiatives to ensure successful financial operations management.
  • Perform CFO responsibilities if necessary and handle other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent minimum experience.

Experience

  • Required: Five (5) years of experience in hospital accounting or finance.
  • Preferred: Seven (7) years of experience in hospital accounting or finance.
