The Preschool Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operations of the preschool kitchen, ensuring meals and snacks are prepared and served in a timely, safe, and hygienic manner. This role involves assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, following health and safety regulations, and ensuring meals meet the dietary needs of young children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of nutritious meals and snacks, following the preschool's menu plan and dietary guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring equipment is properly sanitized.
- Ensure all food is handled safely, following local health regulations and best practices for food safety.
- Assist with portioning and serving meals to classrooms, ensuring food presentation is appropriate for young children.
- Help with inventory management, including checking food supplies and reporting any shortages to the Kitchen Manager.
- Adhere to dietary restrictions and food allergies, ensuring that meals are prepared in line with children's individual needs.
- Assist with kitchen waste management, including composting, recycling, and proper disposal of food waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow all safety and sanitation standards.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team and classroom staff to meet meal schedules and respond to changing needs.
- Support the kitchen team in maintaining compliance with food safety regulations and licensing requirements.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance culinary skills and knowledge
- Adhere to all learning academy policies and procedures, including confidentiality and child protection guidelines
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in food preparation, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment for children.
- Ability to lift and move kitchen equipment and food supplies, as needed.

Preferred:
- Certification in food handling or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience working in a preschool or early childhood education setting.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 2:00 pm
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods while working in the kitchen.
- Repetitive motions such as bending, lifting, and reaching.
Compensation:
