SynTerra is looking for an Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist who can offer our clients their expertise. You should have a minimum of 2 years of experience with projects related to asbestos, lead-based paint, microbial assessments, indoor air quality, and other industrial hygiene projects. This position requires the ability to work independently on specific tasks and in collaboration with clients and other environmental professionals and requires the ability to travel to remote project sites.


Responsibilities:

  • Work independently to identify and collect building materials.
  • Air monitoring.
  • Project estimating and report preparation.
  • Communicate with clients.
  • Coordinate and work on specialized environmental projects and environmental site assessments (Phase I and II ESAs), environmental compliance and monitoring programs, and regulatory approval compliance for industrial facilities.

Opportunities will also be available to cross-train with our compliance engineering and assessment and remediation groups. Opportunities may include: storm water compliance, soil and groundwater sampling, and drilling and monitoring well construction oversight.


Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related studies.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial hygiene.
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained preferred.
  • North Carolina certifications as an Asbestos Inspector and an Asbestos Air Monitor required or meet the experience requirements to obtain these certifications.
  • North Carolina certifications as a Lead Inspector or Lead Risk Assessor are preferred or meet the experience requirements to obtain these certifications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Commitment to details, deadlines, and budgets with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic.
  • Willingness to travel locally, regionally and overnight as needed.
  • Occasional night, weekend, holiday, and extended shifts beyond 8 hours.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • The Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist must be able to lift heavy objects, use ladders, access elevated sites such as roofs and towers, ability to work outside in heat and cold, crawlspaces, and abandoned buildings.
  • The Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist must be good with their hands and familiar with most hand tools.
  • The Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • The Industrial Hygiene Project Scientist must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail.
  • Required to pass medical exam and wear a negative pressure respirator.
  • Required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and at heights.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
