As a Lathe Operator at Van-Am Tool & Engineering, you will play a crucial role in our manufacturing process. Your responsibilities will involve programming, monitoring, and operating a lathe machine to craft precision metal components. Candidates should be adept at reading tape measures, verifying dimensions, and using various measuring devices to ensure precision in their work. Familiarity with machine drawings, fits, and tolerances is necessary for interpreting technical specifications accurately.

Adaptability, strong mathematical skills, physical resilience to lift heavy components, and the ability to work independently are also crucial for success in this dynamic manufacturing environment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position include familiarity with general lathe machine operation and mechanical skills, mechanical problem-solving ability and troubleshooting skills, the ability to read a tape measure, verify dimensions, and use a straightedge and other measuring devices. Candidates must have knowledge of machine drawings, fits, and tolerances and be able to operate lifting devices. They must follow written and oral instructions, communicate effectively in both written and oral forms, adapt to a changing work environment, manage competing demands, and handle frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, are required. Candidates must also be able to lift and handle components weighing up to 100 lbs, work collaboratively with others, and work independently without constant supervision.
