What we need…

This position will work closely with a Department of Energy office.  The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. 

This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Conduct thorough and ongoing assessments of cyber risks within federal client’s systems.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and standards, such as FISMA, NIST, and FedRAMP (as well as department-specific cyber policies and procedures).
  • Guide and support federal client’s ATO process, working with designated federal stakeholders to obtain and maintain the necessary authorizations.
  • Collaborate with federal stakeholders to address ATO requirements and provide necessary documentation and risk oversight.
  • Where needed, navigate the FedRAMP process, ensuring adherence to cloud security standards for federal and DOE systems.
  • Work closely with cloud service providers and assessors to ensure and maintain appropriate FedRAMP and ATO compliance.
  • Develop and implement practical risk mitigation strategies for federal client’s systems, taking into account ATO and FedRAMP requirements.
  • Collaborate with teams to support the seamless integration of security measures into daily operations. Ensure continuous risk awareness and mitigation efforts and in place.
  • Assist with the development and enforcement of federal cybersecurity policies to meet departmental and federal requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of incident response plans for federal client’s systems.
  • Collaborate with incident response teams to minimize the impact of security incidents.
  • Support / conduct training sessions to enhance awareness of cyber risks within federal client’s teams.
  • Provide guidance on best practices to maintain a secure systems environment.
  • Prepare and maintain reports on the cyber risk posture of federal client’s systems, focusing on ATO and FedRAMP compliance.
  • Develop and maintain Security Authorization Reports (SARs) and other risk management documentation.
  • Utilize relevant Departmental and DHS CISA resources for ATO guidance: CISA ATO Guidance.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to leadership, summarizing cyber risk assessments, compliance status, and mitigation strategies.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and support the management of cyber risks associated with third-party vendors, particularly those involved in federal contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent years of experience. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in cyber risk management or a related role within federal systems, with specific experience in ATO and FedRAMP processes relating to cloud services.
  • Experience with the federal ATO process.
  • Experience guiding and participating in the ATO and FedRAMP processes.
  • Extensive familiarity with federal cybersecurity regulations, such as FISMA and NIST (including knowledge of laws, regulations (e.g., FISMA), policies (e.g., NIST SP 800 series), standards (e.g., ISO 27001), guidelines (e.g., NIST CSF), best practices (e.g., OWASP Top 10), frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF), methodologies (e.g., COBIT), tools (e.g., SIEM), techniques (e.g., penetration testing), concepts (e.g., threat modeling) related to cybersecurity with cloud services).
  • Extensive familiarity with the Department of Energy and its information systems and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Understanding of risk assessment methodologies.
  • Understanding of federal cloud services, data privacy and protection, identify management and access control and key trends / developments impacting these spaces.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • CISSP and related cyber security and risk management certifications are a plus.
