As a Veterinary Assistant at Ranch Animal Hospital, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional care to our patients. You will use your advanced skills and knowledge to assist in various medical procedures, including general surgery, anesthesia, and care for exotic animals. Your experience will contribute to the smooth operation of the clinic and ensure that our patients receive the highest standard of care.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care:
- Perform comprehensive physical exams and assessments.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
- Monitor and manage patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively.
- Provide emergency care and first aid as needed.
- Assist veterinarians in general surgical procedures, including preparation, sterile draping, and patient monitoring.
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
- Conduct pre-surgical assessments and post-operative care.
- Induce, monitor, and recover patients from anesthesia.
- Adjust anesthesia levels as needed based on patient condition and surgeon direction.
- Ensure accurate documentation of anesthesia records and patient responses.
- Diagnostic and Laboratory Procedures:
- Perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and cytology. Conduct radiographic and ultrasound imaging as required.
- Prepare samples for laboratory submission and analyze results.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding their pets’ health, treatment plans, and post-care instructions.
- Provide guidance on home care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Address client concerns and questions with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
- Ensure accurate and thorough medical records and documentation.
- Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful Education and Experience:
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Veterinary Technology from an accredited institution, preferred. Minimum completion of High School Diploma/GED program required.
- Valid Veterinary Technician license (LVT/RVT/CVT) in the state of Florida, preferred - not required.
- At least 1 year of experience as a veterinary technician in a small animal practice. Experience with general surgery and anesthesia is essential.
- Experience with exotic animals is a plus.
- Proficient in performing a wide range of veterinary procedures and techniques.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical and surgical protocols.
- Excellent diagnostic and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Compassionate and patient-focused with a genuine love for animals.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Capable of handling challenging situations with professionalism and composure.
