Youth Leadership and Development Coordinator

Position Description:
The Youth Leadership and Development Coordinator will play an integral role in our C.O.N.N.E.C.T project, aiming to empower and uplift African immigrant and refugee youth. This is an 8-week project that focuses on various crucial skills and knowledge areas, including leadership, advocacy, communication, decision making, career readiness, financial literacy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth development and enthusiastic about creating transformative experiences for young individuals.
Schedule: Mon-Fri 24 hours/week.
Salary: $23-$25/hour
Responsibilities:
Program Development & Implementation
- Develop, plan, and implement an 8-week leadership and training program, focusing on each week's thematic areas.
- Create engaging, relevant, and educational content that will stimulate and challenge participants.
- Assess the needs of the participants and tailor programs and activities to meet these needs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the program, making necessary adjustments.
Training & Mentoring
- Lead interactive training sessions, fostering an environment that encourages participation and engagement.
- Mentor youths, offering guidance, support, and encouragement in their developmental journey.
- Equip participants with necessary tools and strategies for effective leadership, decision-making, communication, career readiness, and financial literacy.
Advocacy & Community Building
- Advocate for the needs and interests of African immigrant and refugee youth within the community and organization.
- Build a strong, supportive, and inclusive community among participants.
- Foster an environment that upholds and values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Collaboration & Networking
- Liaise with community organizations, schools, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance program offerings and opportunities.
- Coordinate guest speakers and professionals to offer specialized sessions.
- Work closely with the C.O.N.N.E.C.T team to ensure smooth running of the program.
Administrative Duties
- Perform necessary administrative duties such as scheduling, preparing materials, documenting sessions, and reporting program outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Business Administration, Education, Youth Development, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in youth development or education, preferably working with immigrants or refugees.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong understanding and sensitivity towards the unique challenges faced by immigrant and refugee youth.
- Proven experience in program development and implementation.
- Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops.
- Knowledge of current trends and resources in youth development, higher education, career readiness, and financial literacy.
- Fluent in English, proficiency in Somali language is a plus.
- Must pass a background check.
