Join Summit County Public Health We are looking for a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Specialist In-Training to work full-time (35 hours per week) in our Healthy Homes program Monday through Friday.

The Environmental Health Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments, inspections, and compliance reviews in line with state and local regulations. In the Healthy Homes program, Environmental Health Specialists carry out housing inspections in accordance with state and local codes; inspect tattoo and body piercing parlors in accordance with state laws; conduct public health lead inspections in Summit County to reduce the risk of childhood lead poisoning; perform lead risk assessments; apply pesticides such as rodenticide, larvicide, and adulticide to control rats, mosquitoes, and other pests; and conduct animal bite and rabies investigations. The ideal candidate must have a strong passion for serving their community, a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) in the sciences, and acquire and maintain the Environmental Health Specialist in Training credential from the department of Health (please see the ODH REHS/EHS-IT credential for more info regarding eligibility). Depending on job duties, employee may be required to acquire special certifications including but not limited to: Asbestos Hazard Abatement Specialist, Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist, HAZWOPER, Public Health Lead Investigator, Lead Hazard Abatement, etc.
