POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, the primary responsibility of the lifeguard is to ensure the safety of all those who use the aquatics facilities. We are looking for a motivated individual to ensure the safety of all those who use the aquatics facilities. Consistently and fairly enforce all the pool rules and regulations and perform lifeguard duties in a professional, responsible and courteous manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains all required certifications.
- Analyzes difficult situations and makes decisions according to established policies.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies health and safety rules, policies, guidelines for the pool and pool area.
- Remains alert and vigilant to proactively prevent emergency situations.
- Responds to emergency situations immediately and in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.
- Maintains accurate records required by YMCA and state agencies.
- Reports to work a minimum of 5 minutes early and is ready to guard by the start of their shift.
- Has proper equipment at every shift, including guard tube and equipped lifeguard pack; performs equipment checks before every shift to ensure lifeguard readiness.
- Attends required trainings to ensure that skills are maintained.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 15 years of age.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications preferred; required within 30 days of hire.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required, certification provided by KMYMCA.
- Strong communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to move quickly in emergency situations, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
- Required to remain alert and vigilant while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to tolerate a fast paced, loud, and humid environment.
