The Dean of Students is a key role that oversees a positive, restorative behavior management system that supports students in making positive behavioral choices and allows them to correct and take responsibility for their mistakes. The Dean of Students must be highly relational, energetic, organized, and Christ-centered. The Dean will support the Head of Lower School and work closely in collaboration with the Counselor, Grade Level Leads, and other key faculty members to set and work strategically toward ambitious goals for school climate in pursuit of Calvary’s mission.


Daily responsibilities of this position may include some of the following, but are not limited to this listing of functions and duties performed in this position: 


Maintain positive, constructive, and professional relationships with students, their families, and colleagues.


Refine and maintain student discipline procedures in consonance with school policies, and communicate and maintain records of incidents that require consequences beyond the classroom.


Enforce school policies and procedures including those related to discipline, attendance, communication, and personnel, especially pertaining to the CDS Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. 


Offer support, guidance, and participation in student, teacher, and family communication and conferences.


Assist in refining and monitoring school wide behavior management systems while overseeing developmentally appropriate and grade-level specific positive rewards and tiered consequences.


Confer with staff and families to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning challenges; assist with the preparation and delivery of faculty professional developments and parent education activities and workshops.

Establish and implement programs and initiatives addressing social skills, discipline, and school culture initiatives. Counsel and provide guidance to students regarding spiritual, academic, social, and physical issues as aligned with Calvary Day School’s mission. 


Assist in the admissions process for evaluating enrollment applications, as well as in the hiring process for new members of the faculty team.

Provide input and feedback in Lower School programs and events such as chapel, award ceremonies, major events, field trips, leadership opportunities, and service. 


Comply with conditions as stated in the students rights and responsibilities contract.


Model appropriate Christian behavior in speech and actions


Perform other duties that serve in the best interest of the school and as assigned by the Head of Lower School.


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, this individual must be highly relational and able to perform each essential duty with excellence.  


Candidates should possess a deep commitment to our Christian values, with a demonstrated ability to integrate faith seamlessly into academic guidance. 

A successful candidate will have a strong educational background, preferably with a Master’s degree or higher, a minimum of three years professional experience as a lead/independent classroom teacher or other equivalent experience, and a desire to develop a passion for learning in a Birth through 5th grade environment. 

Proven experience in mentorship or counseling roles, especially within a Christian educational context, is highly desirable. 

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents. 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, empathy, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with teachers and students are crucial. 

Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on classroom management, pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies. Candidates should be well-versed in educational technologies and open to researching and incorporating AI-driven tools into lower school classrooms. 

Encourages collaborative teamwork in and out of the classroom, models effective communication skills for students and teachers, including justifying reasoning and considering multiple perspectives when solving problems. 

Leads by example and invests time in the life of the school by participating in all aspects that support the student and faculty experience. 

Demonstrates professional behavior, including discretion, good judgment and integrity.
