Manager Product Engineering PV will be responsible for leading the Product Engineering design team in the

development of innovative Shoals products in the Solar market segments. As Manager Product Engineering PV, this

position will manage a team of experienced Engineers and Designers to execute product design and development

from concept through production in a cross-functional team environment and ensure that the highest levels of

design reliability, quality and performance are observed.


Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for execution of New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering initiatives to planned time frames and budgets for Shoals global product portfolio
  • Lead team of Product Engineers and CAD Designers located in Portland, TN; ensure alignment to Shoals business objectives and engineering priorities provided by senior management
  • Design and develop products within the Phase-Gate Product Development Process for the global solar market segment
  • Support Project Engineering team in estimating resource needs, schedules with key milestones, product cost, and project cost
  • Work closely with Product Line Managers to understand and refine product requirements
  • Develop presentations and communicate project status to executive leadership
  • Lead continuous improvement in Engineering design and development processes
  • Work closely with Engineering Leadership to develop annual Expense and Capital budgets
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to meet product and company objectives for the Product Engineering group. Cross-functional teams include Product Line Management, Product Safety Regulatory Compliance,
  • Quality, Manufacturing, Legal, Marketing, Finance, and IT.
  • Hands-on design and development of electro-mechanical assemblies and Bills of Materials in support of product development efforts.
  • Coordinate engineering requirements definition, followed by feasibility, design, design reviews, prototype and Beta builds, and testing for all phases of development.
  • Ability to define issues encountered during development, lead root cause analysis, and provide options and recommendations for resolution.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Testing, and Manufacturing groups to ensure product development flow into production. Ensure any New Product Development or VAVE initiative has completed testing and validation to the Shoals gated development process.
  • Work with internal resources and outside vendors and partners in support of product development.


Experience/Qualifications:

  • BSME or BSEE with 8+ years of experience in an Electromechanical product development environment.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience of cross-functional development teams (PV experience a plus)
  • Experience with product development process tools and analysis methods, including Phase-Gate development is required (Work Breakdown Structure experience is a plus)
  • Knowledge of configuration management and the engineering change control process.
  • Understanding of safety standards and agency regulations, EMC and Environmental compliance (NEC code experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development of products from concept to final manufacture, balancing cost, performance and schedule. Design and development of low to medium-volume products a plus.
  • Experience in electronics integration and packaging, including thermal management of electronics enclosures and cable routing/management
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; skill at developing and delivering technical subject matter presentations to non-technical staff and executives
  • Leader who works effectively across multiple functional areas to deliver projects.


Education:

  • BSME / BSEE with 8+ years of experience
