Job Description

Schedule: Per Diem

Wage: 20.00 - 22.00

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Work Duties

  • Assists resident with prescribed medications and maintains related medical records under supervision of the qualified nurse supervisor;
  • Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on specified forms or records;
  • Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures according to the local state guidelines;
  • Ensures safe, accurate assistance with resident medication, including physician order verification, interaction with pharmacies, checking medications for accuracy/correctness;
  • Review and complete the Medication Administration Record (MAR) to record the physician orders and medications;
  • Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered;
  • Will ensure assistance of residents medication in a timely manner as prescribed by physicians orders;
  • May take vital signs or observe resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions; (This function is only performed to the extent provided for by state regulation).
  • Facilitate medication orders as required;
  • Monitors stock of medical supplies and orders new supplies as needed;
  • Completes Weekly Audits of MARS and notifies Director or supervisor of audit results and needed corrective action; Weekly Audits are encouraged to be performed by licensed nurses, to maintain LN oversight of the med program. Med Aids/Techs are advised to audit EHR for missed meds on a daily basis, prior to leaving their shift.
  • Documents appropriate daily records and in residents charts;
  • Collects lab specimens and take vital signs as needed;
  • Responds to emergency situations;
  • Reports acute observations to appropriate party (Physician, Director of Wellness, Director of Residential Care, AL Charge Nurse);
  • Charts observations, evaluations and relevant resident conditions;
  • Assist the Licensed Nurse with the Clinic administrative duties as assigned;
  • Completes Incident Reports as needed;
  • May act as a resource to the Director of Wellness, Director of Residential Care, Residential Care Nurse, and/or AL Charge Nurse;
  • Checks on operating condition of equipment;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with the facility safety programs;
  • Assists with emergencies and with safety instruction such as fire drills, etc.;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with facility Policies and Procedures and applicable state and federal regulations;
  • Monitors the emergency call system for emergency call and responds appropriately;
  • Responsible for adhering to HIPAA privacy rules and company policies, procedures and practices which require that resident-identifiable health information will only be used to perform the essential functions of this job;
  • Proper & accurate recording of hours worked using Kronos timekeeping system;
  • Attends in-service training workshops and meetings as required;
  • Promotes and protects the rights of each resident;
  • Provides effective and courteous service to all residents, potential residents, guests and co-workers;
  • Perform other necessary functions/duties as assigned by the Leadership.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • CPR certified
  • First Aid Certification
  • Certified Medication Technician under state rules as applicable to be able to assist or pass medications in a residential senior living community.
