Job Description
As a Phlebotomist II, you will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Your role includes explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients. You will demonstrate various techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring you fully understand all physician orders. Responsibilities also include matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders. You will ensure the integrity of specimens by properly packaging them for transport and storing them according to required temperatures and protocols. Additionally, you will comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, attend annual department training, and handle telephone inquiries by reading laboratory results.
Hard Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by the state)
- 6 months' experience in venipuncture in a lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with 20+ patient draws per day
- Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients
- Customer service experience
- Ability to learn quickly
This is a fully on-site position in Atlanta, Georgia.
Work Environment
This position is based at a PSC location inside the Emory Hospital in Midtown Atlanta, where you will perform duties such as drug screening, blood work, fingerprinting, and alcohol screening. The working hours are from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a contract to hire position.
