The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Electronics Mechanic-(WG-2604-10)- to work under the 354th Fighter Wing located at Eielson AFB, AK.

The primary purpose of this position is to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and manage electronics equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity such as trunked Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, encryption systems, and associated radio equipment, hardware and software providing 2-way communications, interoperability, and connectivity to the state-wide Alaska Land Mobile Radio (ALMR) network.



This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the general public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Hourly Rate is $36.91 - $43.07 based on experience.

-Tests, troubleshoots, programs, maintains and repairs LMR portable, mobile, and fixed equipment, dispatch consoles, repeater sites, encryption systems, and related hardware and software required for operation of the Astro 25 (Project 25-compliant) LMR network. –
-Maintains User Configuration Manager and Key Management Facility databases required for trunked and encrypted operations.
-Analyzes and repairs system failures and other unusual system occurrences. Locates and isolates the source of the malfunction using various test/diagnostic equipment, software, information from the ALMR Central Help Desk and/or the remote monitoring station in Schaumburg, IL.

Determines whether failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors. Performs all actions necessary to restore operations.
-Evaluates fault reports to determine if an item should be returned to the depot or if repair or adjustment can be made personally. Retests all items after repairs are completed to ensure that they can operate without error.

May be required to assist engineering personnel in developing, debugging, or modifying diagnostic programs by investigating and identifying apparent contradictions between test specifications or test requirement documents and test programs, and recommend changes where necessary.
-Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
-Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area.

RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
-Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory; and operating electronic principles such as microminiaturized digital and solid state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, tube circuits, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, and amplification.
-Knowledge of different electronic and solid state voice and data systems including their capabilities, functions of their major circuits, and the associated cables and wiring used to interconnect the systems.
-Knowledge of the operational capabilities, and limitations of electronic telecommunications equipment and systems to diagnose problems and determine corrective action.
-Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
-Working knowledge of Project-25 type trunked LMR systems, radio programming and encryption.
-Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, and special test panels; and the use of a variety of hand tools such as electrical and manual hand drills, screwdrivers, long-nosed pliers, hammers, diagonal cutters and test equipment such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, continuity testers, handsets, breakout boxes, decibel meters, digital multi-meters, signal generators, digital transmission test sets, and computerized analog measuring systems or other industry related equipment.
-Skill in interpreting and applying a variety of technical information such as technical orders, manufacturers, handbooks and repair manuals, schematics. block diagrams, mathematical expressions, and similar documents while testing and repairing functionally independent electronic equipment.
-Ability to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits and the interaction of other circuits to create a malfunction; and perform functional tests.
