Responsibilities:
A Surgical Technologist, also known as a Surgical Tech or Operating Room Tech, is an integral part of the surgical team who assists in preparing and supporting surgical procedures. Their job responsibilities include:
• Preoperative Setup: Ensuring that the operating room is properly equipped and ready for surgery. This involves sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies needed for the procedure.
• Assisting During Surgery: Providing direct support to the surgeon and other members of the surgical team during the operation. This includes handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon as needed, maintaining the sterile field, and ensuring the smooth progression of the procedure.
• Patient Care and Safety: Preparing patients for surgery, including positioning them on the operating table, and monitoring their vital signs during the procedure. Surgical techs also help ensure patient safety by following strict protocols to maintain a sterile environment.
• Postoperative Cleanup: Assisting in the cleanup of the operating room after surgery. This includes properly disposing of used instruments and materials, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and restocking supplies for future procedures.
