Responsible for leading the Exterior Performance Wind Verification program for ADC. The goal of the program is to add toughness to the specification of vehicles during the development cycle to guarantee marketability with a focus on wind related vehicle performance. This role will serve as an expert in wind tunnel verification and lead development testing. Expectations include documenting test results clearly and concisely, problem correlation with test PIC, planning and facilitating testing, including working with outsourcing, ordering test parts, organizing and leading wind related vehicle checks, creating and coordinating test plans, and acting as liaison to internal and outside groups to deeper understand test results. This role will include responsibility for safety and compliance of non-production vehicles in dynamic test environments and include consistent development of others from a technical and team management viewpoint. Overall, this role will work towards assurance of the vehicle specific marketability targets, with a goal of meeting or exceeding Honda and Acura customer expectations.
- Plan and oversee the development testing and execution for the assigned vehicle segment, function, or mode, including test vehicle preparation and ordering parts when necessary. Serve as escalation point for complex and advanced troubleshooting activities that involve multiple stakeholders and deep root cause analyses to be resolved.
- Initiate and lead engineering solutions and the associated validation processes for assigned vehicle segment or functions to gather data and provide feedback and judgement on their feasibility, costs, quality, and performance. Understand and consider in decision-making the connections and impact to different vehicle segments and development activities. Correlate with cross-division or cross-company counterparts and align with the organizational technology standards, regulations, and policies. Review and provide judgement on technical results for the assigned segment and offer recommendations for development to Technical Expert.
- Manage relationships with internal and external (EP, Factory and HALO) stakeholders and counterparts, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust. Manage inter-Honda company issues and coordinate internal resources. Provide clear and concise reporting regarding large project status and deliverables.
- Compile and / or develop clear and concise documentation (i.e. specification sheets, incident reports, test reports, evaluation documents) to record and submit all necessary information as the development process moves forward. Review documents prepared by PICs and junior engineers for completeness and quality check. Provide guidance to others as needed.
- Conceive and oversee the development of engineering specifications and standards for the assigned vehicle segment or functions to guide engineering and manufacturing work in the organization and its suppliers. Provide direct technical guidance and oversight to multiple groups.
- Lead a small to medium engineering team as Chief or Project Lead to communicate the outcomes needed and provide direction to achieve them. Lead companywide vehicle checks. Coordinate team actions on project tasks, request additional team member support when needed, and identify potential areas for improvement necessary to build the capability of the team (i.e. through training, coaching and mentoring). Provide technical oversight and judgement on requirement achievement, test results, and countermeasure application. Responsible for function output of project(s).
Minimum Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, Associates degree with related experience will be considered.
Minimum Experience:
- 5+ years of job-related experience.
- Some general experience acting in supervisory role.
Other Job-Specific Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience in data analysis and communication of complex information to engineering management is desired.
- Experience with following software or similar is desired
- 3D CAD surface modeling CATiA or SolidWorks
