Postdoctoral Position – Epigenetics of Genome Maintenance

A postdoctoral position is available in Philipp Oberdoerffer’s lab in the Department of Radiation Oncology & Molecular Radiation Sciences (MRS) and Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

Our lab investigates how epigenetic context affects genome maintenance pathways, and how this crosstalk may be exploited to modulate cell function and malignant growth. We combine molecular biology, imaging and epigenomics approaches to pursue these goals in cell-based systems and mouse models. For more information, visit our website.

Ongoing research efforts aim to better understand (i) how dynamic changes in macroH2A1 alternative splicing regulate genome integrity and cell function during cell state transitions in health and disease; (ii) how chromatin-associated RNAs, their modifications and secondary structures contribute to DNA repair. We have completed several screening efforts to identify novel RNA-based modulators of cancer cell sensitivity to DNA damaging agents. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly qualified individual to take on in-depth investigation of validated candidates.

Applicants with expertise in any of the following are of particular interest: genome-wide chromatin and DNA lesion mapping approaches, RNA/DNA secondary structures, CRISPR/Cas9-based screening, associated bioinformatic analyses and/or animal work. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or M.D. Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry or a related field and should have no more than two years of post-doctoral experience. Investigators are supported by a wide array of intellectual, technological, and research resources available through the Cancer Center and School of Medicine. The Johns Hopkins University further provides extensive opportunities for collaboration, and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-risk, high-impact laboratory- and clinic-based investigations.
