About You
This individual will lead a team of engineers to ensure maximum equipment uptime and availability with day-to-day troubleshooting along with process and equipment improvement projects to maximize the efficient use of STIHL resources. Utilizes analytical skills and engineering practices to solve problems and offer solutions. Manages the engineering department by training employees, establishing and meeting performance goals, organizing and prioritizing work, leading capital projects and maintaining a healthy, productive and motivated climate.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises, coordinates, and guides engineers in obtaining, organizing, and analyzing data used to resolve production issues in the Guide Bar Manufacturing Plant. Personally, takes a hands-on approach when necessary to meet the needs of a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Manages entire life cycle of assigned capital projects including developing project specifications, working with suppliers and purchasing to gather quotes/estimates, determining budget requirements, completing and submitting decision templates for management approval, kicking off project, completing design review, managing build, running-off new equipment, installation, and validating new equipment once delivered to STIHL Inc.
- Stays current with new technologies. Identify opportunities where new technologies can be applied in manufacturing that result in future cost savings.
- Determines proposals for general problem resolutions, proposes technical improvements, makes equipment recommendations to improve work methods. Researches, designs, and implements systems, processes, technologies and materials to improve error-proofing, quality, increase production speed, reduce downtime, and improve cost effectiveness. Measures impact of changes on product cost, quality, and accuracy; prepares reports to management as necessary
- Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders such as Production, Maintenance, Tool and Die, Occ. Env. Safety, R&D and counterparts at the Founding Company, etc. to assure safe, reliable and efficient development and operation of machines, automations, fixtures, and tooling.
- Analyze unplanned downtime to determine causality and make recommendations to prevent future problems and minimize unplanned downtime. Creates designs, models, and schematics for either in-house or outside vendors to construct. Assists in the construction of such systems, and is responsible for system tests, validation, and issue resolution.
- Serves as a liaison with the founding companys regarding machine automation, fixture and tooling technologies as well as projects.
- Participates in and coordinates internal programs, such as communications, vacation schedules, job analysis and evaluation, employee performance reviews, etc..
- Maintains currency with respect to technical and supervisory skills by attending training classes, special technical and administration courses, seminars, exhibits and trade shows as needed.

Specifications internal
- 4- year college degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline. 5+ plus years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)
- Blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Project management experience.
- Presentation skills and experience using Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and MiniTab.
- Hands on processing experience in particular field of engineering.
- Working knowledge of metal stamping, welding, heat treating, assembly, painting, printing and high-speed packaging operations.
- Prior experience with complex automations and robotics (FANUC and Siemens experience preferred).
