We are seeking a Surgical Technician to join our dynamic team This position will focus on overall animal care and welfare, successful animal surgery completion, recordkeeping and procedural duties. The person in this role will need to feel passionate about working with animals, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment. We are seeking someone that is hardworking, shows attention to detail, takes initiative, has a teamwork mentality and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Cares for animals including feeding, cleaning and surgery support responsibilities
  • Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care
  • Surgery support tasks including preparation of surgical instruments and supplies for surgeons' use, operate the autoclaves, calibration of animal weight scales, disinfecting surgery equipment, transfer of animals, and weighing animals
  • Successfully perform rodent catheterization and soft tissue removal surgeries
  • Work with managers in the development of new surgical models
  • Work with managers in the implementation of new and better surgical techniques
  • Coordinate order details to include selection, packaging and confirming accuracy
  • Keeps accurate records of feeding, cleaning and care of animals
  • Animal anesthesia, prep, and post-operative care of surgical animals
  • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    We are looking for the following from the Surgical Technician:
    • Desire to work with and care for animals on a daily basisInterest in animal surgery and careContinuous effort toward contributing to a clean and safe working environmentAbility and willingness to complete paperwork as neededMust be available to work weekends/ holidays on a rotating basisWillingness to work overtime when neededMinimum, 2 year degree in animal science; pertinent work experience (such as laboratory, veterinary or surgical experience) may be substituted for education.Ability to understand the written company standards and verbal instructions in English.Basic math skills.Respect for animal welfare.Ability to work in a team atmosphere.Adherence to the company domestic pet policy and biosecurity. This position requires that the Surgical Technician be able to:
      • lift up to 50lbs on occasionstand/walk on concrete for at least 2 hours at a timefrequently bend, reach, push, pull, squat and lift *This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
