The Staff Clinician provides counseling and crisis intervention services to all University students. The position participates in student orientation, campus health and wellness programs, student leader trainings, and provides outreach presentations to student groups. The position serves as an integral part of the University's Health and Wellness Team with the primary goal of integration and collaboration among team members that is closely aligned with the University's mission of educating the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. The Staff Clinician position is a 12-month, full time position.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates expertise and knowledge of best practices in working with diverse student populations in a culturally sensitive and competent manner.
  • Conducts individual psychotherapy for psychiatric and other mental-health related issues. Couple's therapy may also be provided by staff psychologists with relevant training and experience.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in short-term therapy interventions (e.g. solution focused, single session consultations.
  • Maintains a clinical load index of 20-25 hours weekly.
  • Performs additional assigned duties related to psychiatric case management ( e.g. consulting with clinic psychiatry providers, ensuring cases are up to date, coordinate Rx refills for psychiatry providers, maintain documentation for cases) might be dispersed depending on clinic need.
  • Participates in the Student Counseling Center's crisis intervention services (e.g., Walk-ins and Counselor on Duty), including notification of direct supervisor, appropriate administrators and staff, and referral of potential mental health emergencies to ensure individual and campus community safety.
  • Remains current on required documentation, including intake forms, progress notes, consultation forms, and termination summaries.
  • Develops, conducts, and supports psychotherapy groups and/or psycho-educational workshops in response to student mental-health issues (e.g., academic stress and anxiety, adjustment to college).
  • Adheres to professional and ethical guidelines, including relevant legislation related to access and security of confidential patient health records (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, and ADA legislation/guidelines).
  • Attends weekly staff meetings, case conference, and collaborative-care team meetings.
  • Develops, supports, and conducts student outreach programming that emphasizes prevention and maintenance of mental health and well-being, including stress management and suicide prevention.
  • Provides mental-health consultation to faculty, staff, and administrators while maintaining adherence to ethical and legal guidelines related to students' rights of confidentiality.
  • Represents the SCC on University committees as appropriate, including participation in integrated Health and Wellness programming related to mental health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor (LMFT), preferred.
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or other field of psychology required.
  • Current status as a licensed mental health clinician (psychologist, LPC, LCSW) in the state of Texas required. Candidates with equivalent licensure status from other states or provisionally licensed psychologists in Texas will be considered with the requirement to obtain licensure within 12 months of start date.
  • If not actively licensed, Incumbents and candidates will be required to demonstrate progression towards the attainment of licensure to practice in the State of Texas with their respective licensing board, annually. (A detailed annual review of incumbent's progression towards licensure and professional clinical performance will be conducted to determine continued employment status)
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
  • Must be able to work weekend, evening, holidays and late hours when necessary.
  • Actively support the delivery of services and programs within the framework of the Marianist mission: educating for formation of faith; providing an integral, quality education; educating in family spirit; educating for service justice and peace; and educating for adaptation and change.
  • Must be able to meet and balance multiple demands from various constituents and departments.
  • Must have ability to adhere to professional and ethical guidelines, including relevant legislation related to access and security of confidential patient health records (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, and ADA legislation/guidelines), and ensures departmental compliance with university policies and procedures;
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Electronic Health Record (EHR) software (Titanium) or similar.
  • Must have experience working with students in a collegiate educational setting or young adults in other mental health settings.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have a high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; displays solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities to assist in the preparation of department personnel policy information. Use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments. Decisions are made regarding policy interpretation and individual work priorities
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate a capacity for leadership, and the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Bilingual strongly preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion and desire to work with diverse populations; Experience working with college age populations and students identifying as Hispanic or Latinx strongly preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
