Grant Management Responsibilities (50%)
· Manages and supports grants received by The Salvation Army National Headquarters.
· Identifies and develops strategies to optimize the grants administration process.
· Oversees implementation per the operational and financial needs of the organization.
· Keeps the relevant staff informed about upcoming deadlines and deliverables, thereby ensuring smooth completion of work responsibilities, working across departments as needed.
· Oversees the job of invoicing, accounting, reporting, and other administrative functions to ensure successful execution of grant process.
· Prepares financial or budget plans and allocation along with the planning with the finance department in accordance with each requirement.
· Analyzes the budget trends and makes recommendations for cost control and reduction for various grants.
· Provides detailed reports to the funders and The Salvation Army National Business Council with respect to the Salvation Army National Headquarters progress.
· Monitors paperwork and other related documents connected with grant-funded programs.
· Maintains records of all payments and receivables and prepares monthly records for all grant-related activities.
· Provides training to new staff on grant management and reporting requirements.
· Creates financial analysis, funding scenarios and projections for internal and external use.
· Manages and tracks grant proposals to foundation, corporate, and government sources working closely with staff across departments, including Social Services.
· Creates, posts, and maintains a grant calendar with department deadlines for tracking the grant process.
· Maintains a digital grant portfolio
· Serves as NHQ point person for grant evaluation process with outside consultant/university, as part of the grant process.
· Manages budget spending to guidelines, monitoring and reviewing allocation of funds and grant balances, ensuring appropriate use of funds both in terms of funder regulations and Salvation Army policies.
· Compiles and analyzes fiscal data, develop updates, disseminates accurate and complete financial information to ensure compliance.
· Reviews budget change requests and coordinates with funder on any needed and/or requested changes.
Grant Proposal Responsibilities (40%)
· Performs relevant research to identify available grant opportunities and evaluates results.
· Researches for effective and authentic funding opportunities having a lawful registration and proven track record.
· Collaborates and coordinates with National Social Services department to share materials and avoid duplication.
· Researches, constructs, and submits well-written, persuasive applications and proposals for funding future program development.
· Researches funding available and works with territory and program staff to build capacity for grant application, including assisting in the development of grant applications and procurement of grants.
· Develops prompt, efficient responses to requests for proposals in accordance with guidelines, standards, and schedules of potential funders.
· Manages the process of responding to funder’s questions and requests for additional information during the application process.
· Participates in grant related presentations as required.
· Initiates communication and sets up and/or attends meetings with foundations and funding sources to ensure questions are answered and materials are submitted correctly; hosts potential and existing grantors at NHQ.
· Facilitates involvement of board members and staff, as appropriate.
· Develops and maintains relationships with territorial and divisional staff across the United States to develop appropriate protocols for approaching funding sources.
· Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of entire proposal, including accuracy, presentation and compliance.
· Responsible for oversight of grant submittal process, coordinating and leading the team working on the proposal.
· Assists with all progress reports and ensure compliance and responsiveness with funder guidelines and requests.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
· Serves as clearinghouse for organizational information required for grant applications (past, performance, capacity statements, standard forms).
· Prepares status reports of funded initiatives as well as funding sought and denied, for presentation at National Advisory Board, National Business Council, and other meetings as assigned.
· Cultivates strong working relationships with key funders in order to maintain sustainable funding.
· May travel domestically to build grantor relationships, participate in capacity building, and writing grants in implementing territories.
· Performs other related work as assigned by National Social Services Secretary or Assistant Director of Social Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in area related to philanthropy;
Master’s degree in business administration, social services, or related field is preferred
and
five years of professional experience in a grant writing and/or grant management position, working in a fast paced/high energy, multiple projects, deadline driven environment, preferably in field of social services working in area focused on poverty and/or vulnerable populations
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Familiarity with national foundations.
Excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
General accounting or grants accounting experience, including expense tracking and budgeting, financial projections, preparing regular financial reporting, etc.
Detail oriented.
Effective organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated experience in writing successful proposals, for private foundations and government, in one or more of the following areas: Family Support Services, Poverty, Self Sufficiency,
Demonstrated ability to procure funding.
Highly developed organizational skills.
Ability to work in fast paced, high volume department.
Ability to, effectively and efficiently, work on multiple deadline projects at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized.
Basic knowledge of statistics and outcomes measurement.
Ability to conduct demographic and quantitative research in support of proposals.
Research skills to support sourcing of potential opportunities.
Ability to motivate a team and work collaboratively.
Excellent project management skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with NHQ personnel, donors, partners, and US Territories.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work takes place in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. However, working conditions may vary during times of travel.
