TITLE: Electrical Engineer
REPORTING: Electrical Maintenance Manager
LOCATION: Roanoke, Virginia
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Industrial Electrician with 7-10 years of experience in heavy industry environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment in an industrial setting, including manufacturing plants, power plants, and other heavy industrial facilities. A strong background in working with high-voltage systems, industrial machinery, and control systems is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems, machinery, and control panels to ensure efficient operation.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues with motors, transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and other industrial electrical systems.
Installation of Electrical Systems:
- Install, test, and commission new electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and power distribution in compliance with national and local codes.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams to install and configure electrical systems correctly.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical equipment to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records and logs for audits and inspections.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations, including OSHA, NEC, and company-specific safety protocols.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and adhere to safety protocols to protect personnel and equipment.
High Voltage Work:
- Work with high-voltage systems, including testing and maintaining transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels.
- Diagnose faults in high-voltage systems and safely perform repairs or replacements.
Automation & Control Systems:
- Troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other automated control systems.
- Assist with the design, programming, and integration of new control systems for industrial processes.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers, maintenance teams, and management to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Train and mentor junior electricians and apprentices as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience:
- 7-10 years of experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in heavy industry environments such as manufacturing, mining, steel, oil & gas, or power generation.
Education:
- 2-year or 4-year engineering degree
Licenses/Certifications:
- State-certified Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred.
- Additional certifications such as OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, and High Voltage Certification are preferred.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and equipment used in industrial settings.
- Proficient in the use of electrical diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, meggers).
- Experience with PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
Problem-Solving:
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Safety Awareness:
- Knowledge of safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety standards (NEC, NFPA 70E).
Working Conditions:
- Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, dust, and hazardous materials.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand, bend, and work in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed.
