Florida Philanthropic Network understands the complexities of grantmaking in Florida’s unique and varied communities. Our FPN connects more than 700 Florida foundation leaders and grantmaking professionals, funder-focused programming, resources and research from the field. Together, FPN members can build a successful model for cooperation and collaboration among all sectors -- business, government and nonprofit -- to promote, develop and advance philanthropy and improve the quality of life for all Floridians.
Position Overview
This is a full-time exempt position that reports to the President & CEO and is based in the Tampa office.
Essential Accountabilities
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall have primary oversight for FPN’s learning agenda, designing programmatic opportunities that align with FPN’s strategic plan and that engage our members. In this role, you will be responsible for developing a program and learning calendar annually based on best practices of adult learning that incorporates a balance of educational and professional development programming for core programs, member issue briefings, member constituencies/networks, convenings, public programs, co-sponsored programs with colleague organizations, and the annual FPN Summit. Moreover, you will develop and implement a long-term educational strategy to further FPN’s vision and mission.
Member Engagement, Building Field Knowledge via Program & Learning Resources
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall identify, monitor and incorporate key national, regional and local trends and issues relevant to FPN, its membership, and philanthropy in general, as well as the emerging national direction on the future of the field. In this role, you will also develop, manage, and maintain a variety of non-programmatic print and electronic resources and services accessible to members and staff.
Planning and Budgeting
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall develop an annual work plan for all assigned services and responsibilities. In this role, you will prepare, monitor and manage budgets of education and professional development programs, conferences and special projects, and other activities, as assigned, taking corrective action as needed to meet financial goals. You will assess FPN’s member program and learning plan on an ongoing basis to ensure relevance and alignment with FPN’s strategic plan and budget.
FPN’s new strategic plan, adopted in February 2017, establishes our core values as Leadership, Inclusion, Collaboration, Learning and Integrity. One of FPN’s strategic goals is to “Advance the Common Good by Increasing Philanthropy’s Effectiveness in Florida” and will be fulfilled by two critical strategies:
- Design a learning agenda that is both proactive to key issues facing the sector and reactive to emerging trends leading to better outcomes in member education;
- Establish a Body of Knowledge to drive FPN’s future discussions, training, and engagement of other sectors.
Member Relations and Management
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall serve as a partner to the President and the entire staff team in designing and implementing efforts to strategically and systematically engage current members. In this role, you will lead efforts to strengthen member relationships, learning more about member needs, and identify emerging industry trends – including overseeing the stewardship of current members along with the overall membership recruiting and retention efforts in collaboration with Team FPN.
Leadership and Development
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall be a leader in enhancing the image and positive impact of FPN as a leader in Florida philanthropy. In this role, you will provide leadership and direction to the development and implementation of special projects as envisioned and/or as assigned. And, you would serve as a positive role model in your representation of FPN with members, partners and all other constituencies.
Member Programs & Learning: Evaluation and Assessment
The FPN Director of Programs & Member Engagement shall design and implement rigorous program evaluation and member feedback procedures — for member programs and learning as a whole and for individual program offerings — to determine whether FPN is achieving its program and learning goals and to integrate the learning from these assessments to improve future outcomes. In this role, you will work directly with Team FPN and its member groups to implement processes to collect feedback on what’s working and not working and to generate ideas for future learning opportunities. And, you would evaluate whether FPN programs incorporate national, regional and local trends with respect to the current thinking and direction of where the field is heading and evolving as a whole.
Competencies and/or Values Common to All FPN Positions:
A clear and consistent commitment to the FPN mission, vision and values in providing service to members and leadership in philanthropy.
A willingness to perform assigned responsibilities and contribute to a respectful, collaborative work environment. A demonstrated willingness to advance strategic goals and outcomes as established by the Board.
A desire and commitment to work effectively in a highly collaborative and open small team environment.
An ongoing history of compliance with all FPN operating policies and procedures.
An understanding that other duties will be assigned by the President & CEO, as needed to meet the member and business needs of FPN.
Selection Criteria to Qualify for this Position:
The ideal candidate is a relentless problem-solver and systems thinker with both strong analytical and communications skills who is comfortable in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment.
