The Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out the duties of the Engineering department, including design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement. He/she will be responsible for engineering innovative products of value that meets or exceeds customer expectations according to predetermined performance criteria and aesthetic value.

Essential Functions

  • Generate and transform initial product designs using computer aided design into working concepts and produce conforming designs, parameters and calculations.
  • Work within our multi-disciplinary team to define, design, build, and test new products across the lifecycle from initial conception to production.
  • Define and conduct FMEA/DFMEA to maximize potential success of new product.
  • Use and recommend analytical studies of motion, stress, forces and tolerance stack up to assure product function and reliability.
  • Carry out simulations and analysis (FEA/CFD) of designs using internal tools and ensure each design follows the required specifications.
  • Ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerance.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs for production runs for Bender machines, 3 and 5 Axis CNC Router.
  • Develop Bill of Materials and translation documents related to new or changed designs.
  • Review’s engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards
  • Work with sales to revise/improve existing products and assist in the development of new products.
  • Support production team to develop assembly processes and provide technical assistance in production line set-up/flow.
  • Review products on units to make necessary modifications to meet performance criteria
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet / anticipate needs of both Engineering & other departments within the company (maintenance, production, sales, purchasing)

Responsibilities

  • Understand production equipment, standards, procedures and core competencies.
  • Follow approved procedures to complete tasks
  • Able to manage self to meet the requirements of quality and schedule.
  • Ability to plan and organize through several project stages.
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate.
  • Maintains area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.

Education & Qualifications

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), Master’s Degree a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience working with New Product Development in Automotive or Marine industry.
  • Proficient with 2D/3D design and manufacturing using CAD & CAM Software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to apply appropriate GD&T methods.
  • Understanding of FEA methods and results.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and manufacturing techniques
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Applied Lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
