Structural Restoration Consultant

This Opportunity

In this role, you will be researching, analyzing, and solving structural deficiencies involving structures of all sizes, shapes, materials, and types such as multi-story structures, parking structures, plazas, historic buildings, industrial structures, and bridges. You will also be responsible for providing forensic investigation, behavior evaluation, repair design and budgeting, preparation of repair documents, and construction administration. You will evaluate, assess, and devise repair plans for a variety of existing structures.

Qualified candidates will have strong structural analysis and design skills, strong restoration and/or forensic engineering experience, superior problem-solving skills, and a proven ability to work on several complex projects simultaneously. The ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally with decision-makers at all levels in an organization, be highly resourceful and self-directed, and enjoy working in an environment that offers the freedom and autonomy to develop and implement best practices. Responsibilities

  1. Perform investigations, surveys, and testing of existing buildings to identify and diagnose deficiencies contributing to damage or deterioration.
  2. Take a leading role in conducting the following tasks yourself or through other engineers: structural analysis, repair/retrofit design, and preparation of project documents including development of repair drawings, calculation sheets, and assessment reports. Critically analyze plans, specifications, and calculations prepared by others.
  3. Monitor the progress of projects, adhere to project requirements, and closely track budget and procedural standards.
  4. Perform or review condition appraisals, and develop repair schemes and repair recommendations.
  5. Complete and maintain all project documentation in project management software.
  6. Coordinate engineers and technical personnel for projects in the office.
  7. Maintain, market, and promote restoration and forensic engineering consulting services to new and existing clients.
  8. Assist and train less experienced staff in a variety of roles.
  9. Perform peer reviews.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

  1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in civil/structural engineering.
  2. PE in home state and ability to obtain a Texas PE in the first year of employment.
  3. 7+ years of experience in structural design, repair/retrofit design, and structural failure investigation.
  4. Excellent organization and project management skills.
  5. Fluent in spoken and written English. Strong technical writing skills.
  6. Strong background in using commercially available structural engineering software.
  7. Experience in building envelope assessments (moisture infiltration, façade, roofing) is a plus.

Other Requirements:

  1. Ability to travel for projects in other cities and states.
  2. Willingness to participate and travel for conferences.
