This role is to work as a software engineer on the platform (“cloud”) team within the newly formed mobile app vertical. Engineers on the platform team handle everything related to Vivint’s backend. Everything you do will be used directly by our millions of customers. The primary focus of this new team is to evolve our app for our next generation of products and services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Work in a highly autonomous and collaborative environment.
  2. Work closely with the other teams like mobile apps and embedded devices that integrate with the platform/backend.
  3. Research and evaluate new technologies and tools.
  4. Participate in re-occurring "Innovation Days" and work on innovative projects of your choice.
  5. Create systems to handle high volume data from sensors, cameras, and user actions.
  6. API design and implementation.

Preferred Skills, Experience & Education:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. A solid understanding of core computer science principles—including algorithms, complexity, and data structures—is essential.
  2. Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and maintaining reliable, large-scale backend systems and microservices.
  3. Proficiency in at least one core programming language (preferably Golang or Python), with openness to learning new languages and technologies.
  4. Practical experience with a range of tools and technologies, including:
    1. Languages & Frameworks : Golang, Python.
    2. Databases & Queues : MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Redis, Kafka.
    3. Networking & Cloud : Networking, AWS, Docker, Microservices.
    4. Security & Protocols : OAuth2, data privacy, security best practices.
    5. Infrastructure : Datacenter monitoring, PaaS, SaaS environments.
    6. Familiarity with GRPC is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
