Role Overview: The purpose of the Shift Supervisor is to ensure the security officers under their command effectively uphold a safe and secure environment, maintain communication with staff to minimize crisis situations, and operate in full compliance with the established post orders. The Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the client site, maintaining a calm and controlled environment, and supporting the officers under their command while effectively managing any staffing issues that arise.

Duties:

  • Assign officers to specific duties within the client site and rotate them as necessary to ensure coverage and avoid fatigue.
  • Monitor the performance of security officers to ensure they follow the post orders and uphold the expectations outlined.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for any escalated issues from the security officers or the client staff.
  • Ensure all officers are briefed at the beginning of each shift on any updates or changes to the post orders.
  • Respond immediately to any reports of harmful or dangerous behavior from security officers.
  • Directly manage incidents involving potential client elopement, ensuring officers follow the correct protocol, including engaging with and notifying the appropriate authorities.
  • Coordinate with local Law Enforcement and Shift Security Supervisors in case of an elopement or other emergencies.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with the Client Supervisor, ensuring security measures align with the care plan.
  • Regularly update the Shift Security Supervisor and other relevant personnel on any incidents, changes in status, or other critical information.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for officers on recognizing and managing potential elopements, crisis intervention, and any updates to post orders.
  • Provide on-the-job training for new officers, focusing on the specific needs and protocols of the security.
  • Review and provide feedback to officers on their performance, emphasizing adherence to safety protocols and effective communication.
  • Ensure that all incidents, including potential and actual elopements, are thoroughly documented in the incident reports.
  • Review and approve incident reports filed by officers, ensuring they are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain a log of all visitors entering and exiting, ensuring that all procedures for visitor management are followed correctly.
  • Ensure that security officers are operating in full compliance with the care plan and post orders.
  • Regularly inspect the client site to ensure that all doors and secure areas are properly managed, and that visitors and patients do not have unauthorized access.
  • Confirm that all procedures regarding the visitor screening, and patient supervision are strictly followed by all officers.
  • Coordinate with client staff and other security personnel during emergencies.
  • Ensure that all officers remain at their posts until properly relieved by other authorized personnel.
  • Take charge during critical situations, ensuring the safety and security of the client site and personnel.
  • Oversee shift transitions, ensuring that all incoming officers are briefed on the current status of the client site and any ongoing incidents.
  • Ensure that officers take their breaks without compromising the security and safety of the client site.
  • Manage any personnel issues within the team, addressing any concerns or disciplinary matters as needed.
  • Monitor Attendance: Maintain a log of officer attendance and monitor patterns of absenteeism.
  • Book-Off Reporting: Establish a clear protocol for officers to report book-offs, including a minimum notice period, if possible. Officers should report their inability to work directly to the Shift Supervisor, who will log the absence and initiate coverage procedures.
  • Immediate Action: Upon receiving a book-off notification, the Shift Supervisor should immediately assess the impact on staffing levels and prioritize filling the vacancy to maintain coverage.
  • Contact Relief Officers: Maintain an updated list of relief or on-call officers who can be contacted to fill in for the booked-off officer. Begin contacting these officers based on availability and proximity to the site.
  • Reassigning Duties: If a relief officer is not immediately available, temporarily reassign duties among the existing team to ensure critical areas are covered until a replacement arrives.
  • Notify Management: Inform the Shift Security Supervisor and, if necessary, higher management of the book-off and the steps being taken to fill the vacancy.
  • Document the Process: Record all actions taken to fill the vacancy, including calls made to relief officers and any changes to the shift structure.
  • Follow-Up: After the shift, review the impact of the book-off on operations and document any issues encountered. If the book-off was unplanned or a result of recurring absenteeism, follow up with the absent officer according to company policy.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and manage a team of security officers effectively.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with medical staff, patients, and officers.
  • Crisis Management: Skilled in managing and de-escalating crisis situations.
